Not the same access as if it was QF though, no First lounge access for instance for WPs in Y etc if the previous
Etihad code share conditions where an example of what to expect from EK.
I thought QF WPs were getting into the QF F Lounge if booked on a QF marketed EY operated flight? Was this not the case? (I thought there were a couple of anecdotes around that this worked, similar to QF marketed FJ flight to NAN, or QF marketed OZ flight to ICN).
In any case, there are key things that QF travellers will miss out on if they fly EK unless they are trussed up properly via the agreement (and reciprocated to EK travellers on QF flights). These include extra baggage allowance for QFFs, baggage interlining, upgrades and seat selection.
Things get more complicated when travelling on EK marketed tickets (whether EK or QF operated) as a QFFer, as QF may have tied hands with respect to
oneworld, viz. cannot award SCs for non-
oneworld affiliate flights, similar to how QF cannot award SCs for MU marketed flights (though it can award points), and NZ cannot award Status Points for EY or VS flights, even though it has agreements with them. And I'm not sure how willing QF will be to leave
oneworld (or somehow kiss up to EK to join, though if EK joins
oneworld then I'll eat a hat).
Basically, for QF to realistically set up an effective partnership with EK, it'll be damn well difficult, let alone to match the efficacy of the partnership between VA and EY.
