Cheers

Why would you expect to use F or J check if you have no status with QF or EK?

Just wing it. Roll up and see what happens.:)

because I'm a QC member and on QF operates flights it doesn't matter what your status is? I just thought emirates might honour it in Aus airports for QC members thats all.

But QP membership doesn’t allow you to use Qantas priority checkin either. Just the Pub. You need status (via flying credits) or book in J/F to get that privilege.

huh? If you're on qf metal it does:
  • International: Check in at dedicated Qantas Club counters available at most airports. You must be travelling on a Qantas operated service with a Qantas flight number.

It sort of does... for domestic flights:

Domestic premium services
Platinum, Gold, Silver Frequent Flyers, Qantas Club members and customers travelling in Business can check-in or drop off baggage at the Premium Service Desk when travelling on domestic flights.

The friendly, professional staff at our Premium Service Desks can arrange your international connections, help make changes to your journey and assist with any advice you may need.

and for international:

International premium services
First passengers and Platinum Frequent Flyers are able to check-in at the exclusive First check-in area at selected international airports, and fast-track through Immigration.

Business customers, Gold and Silver Frequent Flyers members, and oneworld Rubys have access to dedicated Business check-in counters in all international ports.

Premium Economy passengers and Qantas Club members have access to dedicated check-in counters in selected international ports.

there's no doubt this wouldn't work overseas, I just thought it might in AU given their affiliation with QF. I'll try it out and see what happens ;) I can confirm you can't do advanced seat selection as bronze + QP on EK on a QF flight number. All these problems you WP's wouldn't be used to dealing with LOL.

Kind of. But who checks in with desks in domestic? And I’ve not seen the dedicated check in counters in the airports I’ve been to.

Everyone has to start at your level ;)

I do! :) My domestic flights are pretty much always connected to an onward international.

At MEL for my last QFi flight the PEY/Silver/QC line was empty while the business class queue was almost back to the door of the terminal.

Ahahah? Best laugh of the day! Does QF allow QP members to use F or J checkin?

They might but this is the rules.

The Qantas Club Benefits | Qantas

And whatever! Just wing it and see. Never seen anyone refused and sent to the back of the whY queue at checkin, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. :)

Just fly J and not worry about it.:p

Must have a look in Adelaide then. I know Emirates check in doesn’t have this here.

and where are the “dedicated QP counters” internationally?

So if travelling in business you can checkin at the J counter, even if you are a QP member?

Ahhhahhhh. This is a thread that just keeps on giving!

(ps: no offence or implications to the OP who asked the original question. Fundamentally, wing it!)

So if travelling in business
no, doesn't matter what class. Just has to be qf metal. It's funny how this started as a throw it out there wondering if anyone had tried it question, knowing its not really in the rules but then it emerges most people don't even know the normal QP benefits. I guess because it's fairly rare to have QP and zero status.

No? QP memberships give access to the QP. Not much else. Where in the rules (above) does it say QP members can use J/F check in counters?

I see what you are saying and you're mostly right, but I was referring to the designated QP counters, which is sometimes the same queue of j/f, its misleading to say it's access to QP and nothing else.

As I pointed out above - a QClub member would have been through check-in at MEL for my QFi flight a good 30 minutes (if not more) than pax lined up at the J class counter.

While that is true, I happened to know the answer but did come across this thread in time before others stepped in.

Being the family "expert" I was recently ask this in relation to a newly minted QP nephew who had a similar question.

You do have to look hard for the QP check in and they don't always exist.

In any case you appear to be on an EK flight number on QF metal. Just check in with the operating carrier (QF) in the QP line or alternative as referenced earlier.
