Emirates hikes up carrier charges on reward seats

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

But a lot of paid F will still earn a shedload of pts going begging for what? Toasters? You can’t exactly use them for upgrades.
its ironic that if the ticket they purchased with cash goes up by similar amounts/% they would be complaining just as loud

I've completed an analysis of Emirates' fuel/carrier surcharges and published a list of them on most Emirates routes:

It makes for some sobering reading. For example, the taxes & charges on a redemption from Perth to New York (via Dubai) in Emirates Business or First Class are now $4,723 per passenger. Around 95% of this amount is fuel surcharges.

The only routes with low surcharges at the moment are Emirates' fifth-freedom routes.

This graph showing the changes in Emirates carrier/fuel surcharges on flights between Australia and Dubai over the past few years also demonstrates just how ridiculous the new charges are:

Etihad and Qatar have high surcharges as well don't they by world standards? Seems to be a race between the ME3 on who can have the highest surcharges.

My policy for some time has been to use points to get to Asia and then revenue flights from there. When you can get return fares from SEA to Europe regularly for $2k it’s a far better option for us. Everyone is different though
However it pays if you speak the local lingo. Many airlines link it to local credit card eligibility, or foreign language advertised specials. The above comment is smart, but will have the big players really worried - arbitrage is at play, just as US people can purchase points at a fair price point. I know MH has good deals, but not if you book from .au, mostly, but now may be a good time . As some SE players want tourists , there are some cracker deals going to SE. Between the Jetstar passenger strandings / beachings - there is probably a reason I have not flown QF for 30 years. I can't be bothered with points, because I personally am paying for my own trips, and don't fly peak.

Totally agree poopie', there I am 71kg being told my luggage is 10kg overweight when the pax behind me is at least 120kg, & that is only the "behind"
I love the idea of unlimited caviar, aka EK fish eggs of unknown origin. A tiny can of equally tiny, tasteless roe , probably out of Aquitaine, certainly not the Caspian. Sent in my feedback, zilch response, oh how the mighty have fallen, seems like this Joyceitis is highly contagious.
No argument re the fizz & the dates ex Al Ain & coffee bring back memories when I could buy a real pack of 250g Sevruga in DXB duty free upon my return.

I scored 2 x J on BA CDG/LHR/SIN last September for a total of 209,000 points plus 740 Euros in fees and taxes. I was planning on getting a more direct route and just saw 2 x Emirates Classic Rewards seats from Paris to Singapore, but the fees & taxes are 1,745 Euros!
It sort of reduces the incentive of flying Emirates on classic rewards. :(

It's a tough one isn't it - I wonder if it's relative, as on one hand, they're ridiculously increased their charges by over 300% over the last 12 months, but on the other hand, I paid $1500 in taxes (AUD) and 200,000 points to fly my wife first class MEL-DXB-TLV and I consider that reasonable value (if I didn't know what their taxes used to be!) for the seat.

Yep, maybe in F it's still good value, but a bit exy compared to the other carriers.

At least they have award seats available (perhaps this is why). With the high price of premium revenue seats at the moment(I take that from the hysteria as I haven't actually looked), perhaps EK's charges aren't currently so bad?

A whole thread dedicated to it…

Aren‘t they also charging their FFs similar charges (while also devaluing the points value…)?
