Emirates FF Programe

I have been trying to work out how to apply some of my credit card reward points to an Emirates flight to Cairo. Their web sit has no information on how to do it and I found my way to skywards.com which is somehow related to the Emirates FF programme. Unfortunately I could not find any information on how their programme works, how to join, how much etc. Is there any advice out there?

Without bagging this site - there isnt much discussion of Emirates here - perhaps try Flyertalk - its another US based FF program.

The Skywards website has numerous problems - the only way I could redeem some points for a flight (Dubai to Muscat) was to ring the Emirates office in Melbourne, which incurs an extra charge in points. Also, you have to book a return flight. HTH.

I think the basic answer is "don't bother".

If you want to go to CAI, possibly the best way is to purchase/freebie a ticket to DXB and then buy a further ticket from there.

If you really want to be adventurous, checkout the fare from CGK to CAI.

If your credit card is a Westpac Altitude, Diners Club or the Amex Membership Rewards Ascent program, you could always give Virgin Blue Velocity a go. They have Emirates as a partner and its free to join.

I'm not sure how they redeem for non-DJ group flights so it might be good to ring the Velocity customer service guys first.

If you really want to be adventurous, checkout the fare from CGK to CAI.

Everything from CGK is generally cheap on Middle Eastern airlines. And of course Etihad is cheaper. Nice service on new 777-300ERs though.

My brother was CBR based and did a lot of UN related work in Africa and the M/E. He was QF WP but found Skywards suited his travel patterns far better.

He told me that once he reached Gold status on most flights to/from Oz he would find himself operationally upgraded (as "the majority of OZ based EK patrons seem to only be interested in fare price, not cabin").
