G'day

I am looking to going on holiday to Dubai towards the later stages of next year (August-September). I have been looking at flying either Emirates or Etihad, but I also know that Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Thai also fly to dubai via there respected cities, has anybody flown these airlines to Dubai and if so which of the following would be the better option to fly in regards to service and price?

Also can anybody recommend any hotels in Dubai?

Any help would be muchly appreciated
Cheers

You did not saw what class but i will assume whY for now.... (If J it all changes)

I have not tired all the airlines you mention but i am sure there is not all that much difference.

I would pick Cathay or Singapore over Thai but other may say differently.

I just did a sample price in Aug for you... 18th-28th

Qatar $2234
Ethiad $2587
Emirates $2635
Cathay $3644
Singapore $3639
Qantas (+ EK, SQ) $3639
BA (+ EK, SQ, TG) $3639
Thai $3866

g'day

Thanks guys for your help and time with regards to the airfares. I think my main concern will be choosing a good hotel in Dubai. Does anybody have any suggestions in regards to Hotels that are good, Or are there any websites that will have reviews about the Hotels in Dubai?

Thanks

Emirates' stopover deals with hotels were quite reasonable from memory. And it included hotel transfers in a nice car. I stayed at, and very much enjoyed, The Sheraton at Jumeira Beach. It had a made to order egg bar at brekky. That's my definition of a flash hotel. But then, after 6 months of backpacking through the sub-continent, anywhere with a flush toilet would be flash. I'd have no qualms flying with any of the carriers listed by evan, although thai would mean I could stop in BKK so I might lean that way.

My parents fly Emirates a fair bit Cyprus-Sydney and they choose EK(?) due ot the direct DXB-SYD flight - they have always been very happy with whY and now will be paying for J in future for health reasons.

Theyhave actually refused more complex cheaper routings to avoid stopovers - I am not entirely sure that we are actually related ;)

If you must fly between those 2 months, I would suggest to take September rather than August. Do keep in mind, their summer is start in July, and by August, the heat can reach 50 degrees celcius.

I do not claim an expert, but from my personal experience arriving Dubai at the end of last October, where the local says it was a nice weather, it was 31 degree, and extremely humid. I could not bring my self to get out of the car, because it was extremely HOT.

We were flying EK that time, as we arrived in Dubai, it was early morning at around 5 am local time, and I was shocked at the size of the crowd trying to pass the immigration, it was literally hundreds probably even thousands of people. I was put off by the scene (mind you after 14 hrs flight from Melbourne, the last thing I want to do is queing), but later to find that because we flew J, we have seperate queue to pass the immigration. The size of queue in the J class passangers are those what I call "normal" size queue at any Australian airports, with this I meant that I still had to queue, but probably only 15 or so people ahead of me.

We were staying at Dubai Le Meridien, it is almost just across the road from the airport. The hotel is OK, nothing fancy, but there are not much to see and it's quite away from the Mall of Emirates where people goes for big shopping spree.

Wear comfy shoes as Dubai airport is humangus, and involving lots of walks.

Hope that help.

My wife and I stayed at the Ocean Beach Hotel in 2005. It is right on Jumeira Beach and was about $250 a night. Perfectly servicable rooms, nice pool bar and had a regular shuttle into the major shopping areas. As for getting there, we flew Emirates in Y, Oz-DXB-Maroc and found them to be an excellent airline. Easily as good as the MH or SQ Y flights I've had.

The Al Bustan Rotana is pleasant and very close to the airport - last time I could watch the planes from my room, but not hear them. Plus they will serve you draft beer in the lobby while you use the free wi-fi.

Haven't been to Dubai but if you go this site, plug Dubai into the 'City' field directly under 'Hotels', and your dates, you will get a comprehensive list of hotels in order of 'popularity' including prices and reviews. You can amend this to include all hotels regardless of availablilty (if you're flexible with dates). I have found this useful in the past.
