Emirates Delays/Cancellations

EK416 from DXB to SYD is again delayed, though not as heavily as yesterday. On Wednesday 19 August, B773ER A6-EQD should arrive at gate at 1951 hours, 106 minutes behind schedule. This will delay pushback for the returning flight (EK417, the timetabled 2010 hours ex SYD). No standout reason for the inbound delay as the aircraft had been in DXB for more than three hours prior to scheduled departure for Sydney.

The 0205 'small hours' EK440 from DXB to ADL has A359 A6-EXM. It was in the sky at 0254 so gate arrival looks to be 42 minutes late at 2047.

EK414 is the Wednesday 19 0215 hours DXB-SYD with A388 A6-EUU that pointed skywards at 0314 hours. Arrival tonight will be approximately 2235 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

On Friday 21 August 2026, EK416 from DXB to SYD arrived at 1909 hours, 64 minutes late with B773ER A6-EPZ.

In the previous three days, it had arrived (starting with 18 August) 66.69 and 66 minutes late, so at least it's 'consistent'!

The two days prior to those, it had arrived about 40 minutes late in Sydney.

Mostly it seems to be formed by the arriving EK238 ex Boston, USA. This gives a scheduled turnaround of 135 minutes, but often EK238 arrived early in Dubai.

I'd have thought with all the Middle East troubles that Dubai would be less busy than say a year ago, but for whatever reason, EK416 seems to suffer with poor punctuality.

A fairly tight timetabled turnaround in Sydney doesn't help.

Saturday 22 August 2026 saw EK421, the 2220 hours redeye from PER to DXB (B773ER A6-EQC) not airborne until 2354. On Sunday 23, gate arrival should be shortly at 0600 hours, 45 minutes late.

EK416, Thursday 27 August's timetabled 2215 hours from DXB to SYD (B773ER A6-EQF) took off at 2323. On Friday 28, gate arrival should be approximately 1951 hours, 46 late. This flight is often delayed.

In more on Friday 28 August 2026, EK414, the 0215 hours DXB-SYD with A388 A6-EVM, is cutting it fine.

It wasn't pointing skywards until 0330 so arrival at gate tonight is forecast for 2255 hours, 50 minutes late.

EK420 from DXB to the curfew-free PER airport is much worse, with this 0245 hours timetabled departure taking off at 0710 with no doubt many very tired passengers. Gate arrival for B773ER A6-EQC should be approximately 2122 hours, 227 minutes late. As a result, the scheduled 2200 hours departure back to DXB, EK421 is unlikely to depart prior to 2300 hours.

EK420 has been badly late on seven of its last eight (including today's) runs, with the worst yesterday, when it arrived PER at 2219 hours, 284 minutes tardy. That occasion meant takeoff for the returning EK421 at 0041 this morning West Australian time with DXB arrival at gate becoming 0636 hours, 81 minutes late. With a c.two hour rushed turnaround in Perth, whether the cabin interiors could be sufficiently cleaned may well be a moot point.
