More that they haven't cancelled flights that aren't operating. As the waiver's been extended to 15 April, I'd expect cancellations to be extended accordingly in the next few days.

A388 A6-EVE on Thursday 25 June 2026, the 'small hours' 0215 DXB down to SYD (EK414) did not take off until 0435 hours.

FR24 implies it must have a dispensation to land in SYD well after curfew, at a forecast 0003 hours on Friday 26. At 1845 AEST, it was still many nautical miles/kilometres from the Western Australian coast.

This aircraft normally forms the 0600 hours SYD-DXB next morning, EK415.

UPDATE: EK414 is now expected to arrive at gate at 2329 hours tonight, not 0003.

In another severe EK delay, on Wednesday 24 June, A388 A6-EVF arrived in Brisbane at 0648 hours, 23 minutes late as EK434 from DXB.

It stayed overnight, so instead of departing at 2100 hours last night, on Thursday 25 it took off at 1735 hours. DXB gate arrival on Friday 26 should be about 0137 hours, 1217 minutes late.

While the Iran v USA/Israel war is a movable feast, the very recent upsurge in damage and the USA President's statements suggest that hostilities are far from over.

This must make it more likely that EK will do as you ask.

EK408, the Thursday 9 July 0240 hours DXB-MEL (A388 A6-EUH) took off at 0350 hours so gate arrival late tonight becomes 35 minutes late at 2225 hours.

EK408 is again delayed with Saturday 11 July's taking off from DXB at 0334 hours, meaning gate arrival in MEL tonight for A388 A6-EVS will be approximately 2233 hours, 43 minutes behind schedule.

Sunday 12 July 2026 has seen EK415, the 0600 hours SYD-DXB (A388 A6-EUV) take off bang onb 0700. Gate arrival should be about 1510 hours, also an even hour late.

The 0240 hours DXB to MEL EK408 was in the sky at 0328 so arrival for sister aircraft -EUH should be approximately 2223 hours, 33 late.

On Thursday 16 July, the 0750 hours EK412 from SYD to CHC with A388 A6-EUT did not take off until 0919 hours. Gate arrival should be just about bang on 1400 hours, 65 minutes late. This was because the originating flight from DXB to SYD arrived this morning at 0707 hours, 62 minutes late.

As the returning flight from Christchurch, EK413, is not timetabled to depart until 1720 hours, in theory it ought be punctual.

Again, this shows the wisdom of international flights scheduled to have more than a minimum achievable turnaround on the ground, subject to the availability of flight paths, avoidance of curfews and other factors.

Saturday 18 July's EK416 from DXB down to SYD (B773ER A6-ECM) is the 2140 hours mid evening flight that took off at 2304. Sunday 19 gate arrival looks to be about 1828, 58 minutes behind schedule. This is the third consecutive day it will have been about an hour late.

This aircraft normally forms EK417, the 2010 hours SYD-DXB so tonight it's likely to have at least a minor delay in departure.

EK408, the 0240 hours DXB-MEL on Sunday 26 July has A388 A6-EVM. It was not in the sky until 0554 hours, so instead of arriving at gate late tonight at 2325 hours, it should pull up on Monday 27 at about 0048 hours, 83 minutes late.

I don't know why it's late, as this aircraft had arrived early in DXB (ex the USA's IAH) on Saturday 25 evening.

Emirates is one of a small number to serve Adelaide.

On Friday 31 July 2026, EK440, the 0205 hours DXB down to ADL was in the sky at 0404. Arrival for A359 A6-EXK should be at around 2158 hours, 113 minutes late. This will delay EK441, the 2200 hours back up to Dubai.

The DXB-PER EK420 (A388 A6-EOL) isn't any better. This scheduled 0245 hours flight was in the sky at 0507 on 31 July. Gate arrival tonight in Perth should be 1921 hours, 106 late.

In neither case was an inbound flight to DXB late, so I'm not aware of the reason for the delays. Congestion at DXB airport?

EK416 (the 2215 hours late night Sunday 2 August DXB-SYD with B773ER A6-EGI) took off at 0054 hours on Monday 3. It should arrive at gate tonight at 1938 hours, 93 minutes late. This will delay the 2010 hours EK417 return flight by a similar amount in pushback given a turnaround of 125 minutes is unlikely to give much wriggle room.

EK408 is scheduled to depart Dubai at a very busy time - 0240 hours. On Tuesday 4 August 2026, it was in the sky at 0446 with A388 A6-EUV. Gate arrival late tonight in MEL should be about 2248 hours, 58 minutes late.

Its previous flight, the BKK to DXB EK373 had arrived this morning at 0047, three minutes early, meaning a very tight turnaround to push back at 0240.

While no one monitors every A380 departure, from the limited sample seen 'reversing' an aircraft of this size tends to take more than two hours.

On Friday 14 August, EK408 (0240 hours DXB down to MEL operated by A388 A6-EUR) took off at 0449. The very late night gate arrival should be approximately 2337, 107 minutes late.

The similarly timed departure (0245 hours) of EK420 from DXB saw takeoff for B773ER A6-EQE at 0502 hours. PER gate arrival in the early evening should be roughly 1919 hours, 104 minutes behind schedule.

Saturday 15 August 2026 has seen B773ER A6-EQN on EK416, the 2215 hours DXB-SYD not having taken off until 2334 hours. Resultant SYD gate arrival tonight (Sunday 16) is likely at approximately 1851 hours, 46 minutes late.

This plane normally forms the 2010 hours EK417 back to Dubai, so it's unlikely to depart before 2030 tonight.

It's not always practical, but can be wise for international flights to have a longer allowed turnaround than the above as this gives a greater buffer and allows for some late running (in this case) inbound to Australia.

Monday 17 August 2026 has seen EK412, the 0750 hours from SYD across to CHC in the sky at 0852 with A388 A6-EVJ. Gate arrival should be about 1326 hours, 31 minutes late.

EK416 (Monday 17 August's 2215 hours overnight from DXB down to SYD, B773ER A6-EQH) wasn't in the sky until 0005 hours on Tuesday 18, so gate arrival tonight in Sydney becomes a likely 1953 hours, 108 minutes late.

The return flight EK417 is the 2010 hours so it'll probably depart after 2125.

The next one to Sydney (EK414) is the scheduled 'small hours' 0215 hours with A388 A6-EVE. Arrival tonight is suggested for 2255 hours, 50 minutes late.

A359 A6-EXK is also delayed, with EK440 from DXB down to ADL (the 0205 hours) in the sky at 0307. Gate arrival should be about 2114 hours, 69 minutes late.

The timetabled 0245 hours DXB down to PER, EK 420, is worst of all with B773ER A6-EQB not pointing skywards until 0658 this morning Gulf time, meaning an uncomfortable wait for passengers whether in a lounge or the general boarding area. Its mid evening gate arrival is forecast as 2103 hours, 208 minutes late. In the last week, this flight has had extremely poor timekeeping, with minimum late gate arrival of 112 minutes late but now four of eight flights being more than three hours late and the other three around two hours late.

EK421, the 2220 hours PER-DXB is normally the next flight so tonight it will be at least slightly delayed in pushing back.

UPDATE: I posted 'too soon' as EK408, the 0240 hours DXB-MEL is also shockingly late, with takeoff at 0752 for A388 A6-EVG. Arrival at gate should be 0228 hours on Wednesday 19 August, 278 minutes late. Fortunately I've never arrived at Tullamarine at 0230 hours: the only pluses are to expect no queue at immigration or customs save for one's fellow passengers, and empty roads, but no 901 route bus (or Skybus) operating at 0300 hours. Yuk!
