Emirates and Malaysian lounge access with family in tow

Travelling on QF1 to London in June - in economy, wife and 2 kids. Have QFF Platinum. Returning on Malaysian via KL to Bali. And wondering... if anyone has had experience of lounge access in Dubai, London with Emirates or Malaysian if you have family in tow. These days QF welcome the family (due to Virgin pressure I guess) but Im assuming the Emirates and Malaysian may not reciprocate. Any direct experience? Thx Steve

Flight is QF1 through Dubai. I understood the lounge in Dubai is Emirates and not Qantas...?

Whilst the reply was appreciated, and it's better than a negative reply, it won't do me much good when/if I rock up at the lounge with the family in tow and am told I can only guest one of them in, even though I'm flying on a QF flight number.

Children traveling with eligible members will be able to relax in The Emirates Lounges subject to capacity.

Qantas provide consistency where they have control of the situation, as can be seen by the BA/QF London lounge stoush for QP members in the last 18 months, partners can be difficult to control

Stop is not long or major - just that this is our first trip since the change and prompted the broader question. Thx for the PDF. Its clear on the guest issue but not whether kids are guests - no biggie for this trip but be good to know.

I always thought young kids were not counted for entry into QF clubs. May be in writing
Now if the kids are say 17year old boys who will eat & drink(non alcoholic) more than most adults, takeover lounge computers for hours, its a different matter

In a similar situation to the OP: QF-gold, flying econmy on QF9 and currently in the EK business lounge, Dubai, with wife and two children (6,8). Compared to most lounges it is very spacious and at the moment fairly quiet.

Initially, I was told that as a QF-gold I could only guest in one person, but when queried with reference to the QF policies, a supervisor was consulted and we all got in. Hopefully for the OP it is not a case of case-by-case assessment.

Correct in Qantas lounges kids are allowed in. Under 3 they are not counted as guests (so can have as many as you want) and between 3-17 you can have two in addition to normal count of guests(and OP no this is not due to pressure from Virgin it has been policy for a long time). The OP's question though is about EK and MH lounges, which as you point out are different so Qantas access rules DO NOT APPLY even if your flight number is QF. As markis10 said Qantas doesn't have much control over the situation, so complaining about consistency etc (as others have done) is rather pointless.

MH allows children, I believe, so it shouldn't be a problem getting lounge access in LHR and KUL on your way to Bali.

At the end of the day you go and try and get in. If refused not much you can do about it, so not sure what kind of 'tip' you are after.

Below is a list from what I found on-line, a pdf that got circulated around just before april. I think its stupid how a QFF gold can 1 guest, but a QC member can have 1 guest & 2 children. If you brought Qantas Club before you qualified for Gold, maybe take that card with you aswell. Im sure you wont have a problem getting a baby in the lounge, especially if its not busy.

I think you are correct and the baby will not be counted as a guest. AFAIK EK don't have an official family policy but I cannot imagine you being turned away with an extra infant "guest".

Just a hint: there are at least three (emirates) business lounges in Dubai. One in each of the A, B, and C gates section. If you cannot get into one.....

In order of size and comfort they go from best: A, closely followed by B, with C a distant third but still pretty b.... good.

edit to add: I guess you will enter the A gates section. (I spent several hours wandering DXB recently and it's easier to understand if you think of it as gates A, B and C, rather than terminals 1, 2 and 3. And, no it isn't as easy as A=1, B=2 etc). To get to B and C gates from A there is a train and and escalators or lifts. Pretty easy for an adult but may not be fun with child.

and another edit to add: there is unlikely to be any trouble with capacity: the lounges are enormous

The current statement on the Qantas website has the Gold and Club members aligned:

[h=3]Emirates lounges[/h] Platinum members and above are entitled to bring up to two children, aged between 0 to 17 years into an Emirates Lounge. This is in addition to your normal guest allowance.
Gold Frequent Flyer or Qantas Club members who wish to bring a child aged between 0 to 17 years into an Emirates lounge, will be counted as the member's one guest entitlement.
