EK upgrade "Love" on QF / EK coded flights - success rate?

First time flyer with EK with any status, now WP. Last time was NB. ZRH-DXB was given exit row to myself - admittedly there weere about 40 spar seats in economy. On entry to the first lounge in DXB checked whether the 'block' the zrh checkin agent had said he had put on the middle seat in economy to syd, non exit, was still there. This was after bp scanned green at lounge. After 2 mins of working the computer, angel asked if i had requested an upgrade. Well no, because i cant on EK with QF points, but very grateful!! Tucking into the beef fillet in the lounge, after the scollops, life is very good...

EK 392 DXB > SGN
Checked in at DXB First Class Check In, was told may be a chance of an upgrade, just wait and see.
Boarding pass scanned at gate, "Mr. Papermate, Upgrade to the Business Class".
Ticket purchased on Emirates website with EK Flight Number.

No EK Status. Not even a Skywards Member. QF PLATINUM on boarding pass.
Second time ever flying with EK!
First time was the previous day into DXB where I was given an exit row at check-in on a completely full flight; on-board welcome and then an express pass for immigration.

Received upgrade Y discount to J in July on Adl - DBX and return DBX - Adl three weeks later. QF WP when booked but downgraded to Gold when travelling. Booked through Qantas website. For two people. We like Emirates.
First time flying with them.

Last year 3 upgrades from 4 legs of (Y - J) Family holiday - SYD - DBX, DUB - DBX, DBX-SYD.
This year at checkin in DUB was told upgrade for two (Y-J) of our party for four, and we were offered two more J for purchase at 400 Euro each. Baulked at the price it it halved straight away..... all booked on QF flight numbers on QF website....
Meanwhile struggled to squeeze a grunt and express immigration card out of QF on QF2....

Don't read Red Roo!! (lol) you may say something and someone upstairs may stop Emirates generosity.
Have PER-DBX-DUB-DBX-PER booked in J for next year, (QF flights) and hoping to taste F on at least one leg

True. QF would have to stop EK giving upgrades as part of 'aligning the products' as per the alliance lol.

I think Adelaide Emirates, because of our non existent Qantas International service direct, gets overbooked in economy. Add status like WP and upgrades happen. I know of two others who received the Emirates love from Adelaide and WP.
