Re: EK upgrade love

I wouldn't say guaranteed. I am still waiting for my first after half a dozen flights.

Yes - me neither... 0 for 3 so far (SIN-DXB, DXB-LHR & DXB-SIN), but 2 more flights coming up (SYD-AKL-SYD on 388... unlikely though, as never full!)

Re: EK upgrade love

I took SIN to CMB the other day on EK metal with QF code, J was empty, stewardess came over and buttered me up for 10 mins and mentioned my plat status etc

Why not upgrade me? It's a relatively short flight?

Why should they?

Re: EK upgrade love

The decision to upgrade is made on land not in the air. We had a similar situation from Dubai to Venice and movement to J.

Re: EK upgrade love

First time on EK 3 weeks ago, DXB to BCN (following QF1 to DXB). Partner (SG) and I (WP) both bumped J -> F at the gate. What was most surprising was they were QF Saver Award flights!

Very happy.

Same here.... after BKK-SYD x 2; SYD-AKL-SYD. Had a bunch of colleagues who are NB & PS shown the J upgrade love on BKK-SYD but nothing to-date for the one WP in the organisation. Anyway, expect nothing and it can only improve from there...

Re: EK upgrade love

AkL to Australia and vice versa are rarely sold out so upgrades don't happen much. Best on flights in and out of dxb rather than tag flights

Re: EK upgrade love

just curious, is it possible to get upgraded in DXB in transit, for cash (as in $2-400) if not for free? Just going to Europe shortly, and 3 flights on EK (incl. return to AU), so I can't use points for any of those. Just on PS.

That's the EK way. Very generous on upgrades, even on award bookings!

Re: EK upgrade love

Dxb-zrh upgraded y to j. Asked innocent question about where i was seated at the f lounge and got new boarding pass. So tyats 2 out of 3 for me, and 2/2 when at dxb f lounge

Sounds to me like it doesn't hurt to ask questions regarding seating arrangements at the EK DXB F lounge. No puppy dog eyes required either :)

EK upgrade on QF coded flights - success rate?

Just looking at the QF upgrade thread, wanted to see if people had any luck getting upgraded (free or by paying) by Emirates when using QF-bought/coded flights, as basically anything ex-DXB besides London will be on EK planes, and sometimes even Australia to/from DXB.

Traveling on QF tickets, I bought an upgrade Eco to Business (shows as "flexible business" on my QF activity statement) on LYS-DXB, around 300 euros, when checking in, the check in staff actually promoted it when I asked about upgrades.

I then tried in DXB to buy an upgrade for DXB-MEL, which was also on EK metal (A380), but the Emirates ticketing staff (inside the airport, as I was just in transit) absolutely refused to even consider selling me an upgrade, arguing that it was QF coded so they couldn't do it. Even showing that the Emirates staff in LYS did it for the same ticket was met with denial.
Note also lounge staff don't want to handle any of this, they sent me to the ticketing counter.

So question for those using EK metal on QF-coded flights, have you tried getting upgraded by EK, and how did it work out? Any difference if you have status with EK as well as QF?

re: EK upgrade "Love" on QF / EK coded flights - success rate?

Not quite an answer to your queries, but as a Qantas P1, flying Singapore to Melbourne on EK metal but QF booked, I received a free upgrade from J to F in the lounge. Had a seat allocation problem, which may have helped (ie, I asked if I could be given my originally booked J seat or something similar - which put the lounge on notice I was seeking something else). But it was free and not specifically requested. I suspect my QF status helped considerably (no status with EK).

EK upgrade on QF coded flights - success rate?

We had an operational upgrade on QF code Emirates flight Adl-DBX and return. Partner was WP. We'd booked discount economy.

The person at check in just before us asked to purchase an upgrade and was refused. So all upgrades were already in the system.

re: EK upgrade "Love" on QF / EK coded flights - success rate?

EK very often give op-ups to QFF elites. It's not uncommon to get an upgrade and occasionally even a double upgrade. I've certainly never received free upgrades with QF which is why I now try to book QF-coded EK flights where there is a choice.

Yes. As am I. EK seem to treat the QFF'ers much better than Q.

Agreed. (But less so trans-Tasman, in my experience).
