EK cuts PER to double daily from July 2015

You fail to understand how an airline is run, and I can guarantee you it has very little to do with leisure travellers.

The resources industry often refer to Perth as "Little Houston"

I know Perth-Dubia-Houston or New York is a very popular routing for the corporate traveller, making regular visits to the Perth office.

So, its not all leisure travel and I know, many corporates use Emirates because of there huge network

The decision by EK which sparked this thread had nothing to do with the end of the mining boom, or with a judgement that Perth is small or insignificant
That decision was NOT a decision to reduce capacity. It was a decision to upgrade the operating aircraft for one daily return flight from a B777 to an A380.
As a consequence of using a larger aircraft they have consolidated from three daily flights to two.
This has had the incidental effect of a small reduction in capacity, but that clearly wasn't the driver behind the decision.
On the contrary, the driver behind the decision was a judgement that the route could be more profitably operated by a larger aircraft.
It seems at least not unlikely that as EK receive more of the A380s they have on order the aircraft operating the second daily flight might also be upgraded.

As I and others have pointed out, EY is also actively considering upgrading the aircraft they use to operate between PER and AUH, in their case from an A330 to a B777.
Obviously they would not be considering such a move if they were struggling either to fill or to make a profit from their existing flights.
So I am not sure why this thread has descended into characterisations of Perth as a small, insignificant country town.

Disclaimer:
I was born in Brisbane and, although I moved to Perth as a child, I still consider Queensland as my home state. The plants just don't look right over here in WA.
For the 18 months ending 27 February my official principal place of residence was in Adelaide, not Perth.
During that period I also spent several months in Sydney and a few months in Brisbane.
So while I am currently based in Perth I am well aware of its limitations and have no particular affection for, identification with or attachment to the place.

That's quite the disclaimer! If you're not trolling, it sounds like you need to move to where you'd actually like to live! :)

I was just anticipating a reply about defensive Western Australians.

In other news, QF is relaunching PER-SIN on a 5-weekly 737 from 26th June with a midday departure.

I had to make this comment somewhere. At least they're finding something to do with all the 737s they won't be sending to Hedland / KTA / Broome with Woodside losing the fifo camp and BHP/RIO downscaling.

Scottish-style referendum indeed. Gutless wonders both the scots and the sandgropers it seems.

Haha! We might be gutless but we're not stupid! It's been a good deal so far taking money from the east for the first 100 years of federation! :)

I arrived back DXB-PER on EK424 (QF8424 or whatever the codeshare is) last week.

Probably 50% loaded on the B77-200LR.

Looking forward to the 300ER due to take over this week as the 200 was a bit "tired" inside.

Best part of the trip was that they have finally loaded 6 episodes of Big Bang Theory series 8 on ICE.

I will leave the West vs East taunting to others and just point out that the 2 top AFL teams on the ladder are Perth based.

Also there is finally have an another option for flights to/from LHR on Qantas' website for us sandgropers with the PER-SIN flights resuming.

PER-SIN-DXB-LHR with QF owned flights for all except the SIN to DXB available.

While it takes longer, the thought of finally being able to check out the revamped SIN lounge is very tempting.

I have my Rugby World Cup flight to Europe booked, but not the return leg.

(I book returns from the UK due to the different in pricing and having the luxury of being able to book overlapping return trips - the September PER to LHR flight is the retrun leg of the LHR to PER I did last week).

Qantas UK are doing economy specials at present (£358 LHR to PER, with £328 return being the cheapest I saw!!).

Even with the exchange rate, that is less than $1,500!!.

Book the flights and then use points to upgrade on the actual Qantas plane portions......hmmmm

Would I be overoptimistic to say that if EK were to cut PER-DXB to one a day, we might see QF once a day on the route?:mrgreen:
Or is it a question of which year?

In a more cynical mood leading to happy wandering

That would be a nice compromise!

Simply can't happen.
It is a condition of the QF-EK agreement that only EK flies the PER-DXB route.

It might be only half full down the back, during the slowest inbound period for this time, but I bet the load would have been higher in the pointy end.

Also the return flight back to Dubai would have had higher loads with all the paxs travelling to Europe to escape the summer.

Perhaps they could go PER or BNE or ADL to SIN then LHR or other European Ports instead :D lol and not break that part of the agreement

Sounds like a reason not to allow the agreement to be extended. But I'm biased.

Particularly when happily wandering
