Re: (Eff Jan 14) Qantas increase points required for (some= discount Y) domestic upgr

I disagree with you.

Or to put it another way, IMHO you are wrong!

How can it be not limiting if you only have 40K points in the first place?

Sorry sefty but IMO you are wrong.

The benefit is still there, cost isn't part of it. A reduction in the benefit is if they limited to say silver and above or you could only apply if your FF number ended in 9!

Your point balance, or anyone's for that matter doesn't factor into the T&C.

If you think I am wrong, challenge QF on it, I'll guarantee you won't win it.

Re: (Eff Jan 14) Qantas increase points required for (some= discount Y) domestic upgr

My take on it is that the benefit is not limited. It is not like you can only sit in the upgraded seat for 90% of the flight. You still get the full benefit...it just costs more.

Re: (Eff Jan 14) Qantas increase points required for (some= discount Y) domestic upgr

I'd suggest Intl's excluded (for the time being at least) as, compared to others like AA the value is not good, AND they're already well subsidised with big fuel fine copayments!

Re: (Eff Jan 14) Qantas increase points required for (some= discount Y) domestic upgr

I guess Qantas thinks people are mugs not to notice a 25% increase in cost.

Looks like I will not put in any domestic upgrades :) Just a straight out classic award.

Reducing one of the few benefits over VA shows a complete lack of vision and understanding.

how is it reducing? It's still there! so it costs some more points now... not that long ago you couldn't even upgrade red edeals.

Re: (Eff Jan 14) Qantas increase points required for (some= discount Y) domestic upgr

Increasing points required is a reduction in my book.

Not that long ago we also had ATA.

so by the same token, a price increase is also a reduction too? a reduction in benefits would be having it removed or limitations on it. Two different things.

ATA has nothing to do with points upgrades.. my point was 2 years ago your couldn't upgrade red eDeals at all.

Re: (Eff Jan 14) Qantas increase points required for (some= discount Y) domestic upgr

Even though I do not use my QFF points for upgrades still not a good enhancement.

But at the same time I think it is related to the the availability of a lot of cheap non-flying earning QFF points options out there.

Re: (Eff Jan 14) Qantas increase points required for (some= discount Y) domestic upgr

benefit is defined in the terms and conditions:

'Benefits' means any of the facilities, discounts, services or arrangements offered or available to a Member as a result of membership in Qantas Frequent Flyer including earning and redeeming Points and Awards;

Using this definition which includes earning as a benefit, your job which earns you money is a benefit of the money you have to spend.

Re: (Eff Jan 14) Qantas increase points required for (some= discount Y) domestic upgr

Well regardless of opinions, let's be thankful they haven't touched the flexi upgrade rates for now.

I still believed three months notice would have been a nice gesture on QFs part.

Re: (Eff Jan 14) Qantas increase points required for (some= discount Y) domestic upgr

Using this definition which includes earning as a benefit, your job which earns you money is a benefit of the money you have to spend.

anyway - there are further definitions in the text of the terms and conditions that seem to make it fairly clear that changes to points earning and redeeming etc will be subject to the notice provisions. And if that's not what is intended, then it is certainly worded that way to give that impression. Being 'smart' with definitions may not ultimately cut it at a tribunal.

anyway - I'm confused as to why some think it is excusable for QF to do this? By the same token, if QF was to devalue their award table by 100% (ie double mileage levels) those same people are completely fine with it? Because the award is still there, just the price has gone up?

I think differently.

A lot of people will save towards an award. Whether that's a trip to Europe, or a business class trip for a honeymoon or even just to upgrade mum for her Christmas trip to see the family.

Qantas knows this. And for matters within the airline's control, they can't stand by and knowingly let people save towards goals without informing members of potential changes with adequate timing.

People make decisions to spend money and collect points based on the current program as it stands. The notice provision offers some limited protection to changes. 6 months notice was good, 3 months is pushing it. But to increase awards by 25% with 8 weeks notice is pushing it.

red roo... are you able to advise why this change is not subject to a three month notice period?

And is it linked to the introduction of Aquire with the aim being to deter businesses from purchasing red e- deal fares if they want to upgrade using Aquire points converted to QFF points?

How do you think it will deter businesses from buying red edeals?? I can tell you now it will make zip difference. Businesses will buy what tickets they always have. It's up to the employees to use points to upgrade..

Frankly I don't even know what straw you are clutching at!

Thanks for the rude reply. It was a question I asked, not a statement I made.

I can tell YOU now that the guys I work with, who will be using the Aquire-QFF points to upgrade themselves not the employees, and who currently buy red e-deals, will spend the company money on flexis if they think they can then use fewer points to upgrade themselves.
