As far as I can see, Australia is not in the participating county list, but aside from the initial 250 points, you can get AA points for the stays.
I know I get AA miles for Best Western stays but the amount is not worth it. I am more interested in the bonus miles under this promotion as I could easily have 2 stays in Mackay.

It seems from the T&Cs - at https://goldcrownclub.bestwestern.com/offers/spring11-american.pdf - that, sadly, Australia is not a "participating country" and residents are hence ineligible for this offer (emphasis added): :(

Best Western Rewards® members residing in any participating countrywho register for the Spring Promotion and stay* at any Best Western branded hotel worldwide between February 6, 2011 and April 11, 2011 (“Promotion Period”) will earn 500 AAdvantage® bonus miles (“Bonus Miles”) for their 1st stay, 750 Bonus Miles for their 2nd stay and 1,000 Bonus Miles for each stay thereafter.

TO QUALIFY, PRIOR TO YOUR FIRST STAY YOU MUST: (1) BE AN EXISTING OR NEW BEST WESTERN REWARDS MEMBER; (2) HAVE SELECTED AMERICAN AIRLINES AADVANTAGE® AS YOUR EARNING PREFERENCE; AND (3) REGISTER FOR THE PROMOTION. NEW BEST WESTERN REWARDS MEMBERS WHO QUALIFY FOR THE PROMOTION WILL ALSO EARN 250 BONUS MILES.

I've registered anyway, even if the only outcome is more items in my inbox!

:oops: Apologies everyone for the misleading post. Should have read the T & C a little more carefully.

Well, it wasn't until I'd read the last sentence several times that the meaning struck home. The annoying thing is that "participating countries" include Antarctica, as well as Cocos, Christmas and Norfolk Islands ... almost the entire globe apart from continental Oz and NZ. Go figure!
