With my growing disillusionment with QF I decided that I wanted to switch from the Earth Black to Altitude. After a couple of attempts to get through on the Westpac Customer Service line I found the wait times too long. However, a visit to a branch made it very simple to initiate the product switch. The rep in the branch simply made a phone call to verify such a switch was possible and all was done.
I now have to wait for the letter of confirmation, pick up the new cards and switch the couple of direct debits that I still have.
A switch of products to go with a switch of airlines.
Although I wouldn't in any way recommend using the points earned to buy gift vouchers they can be used as an interesting comparison.
For example, to obtain a Myer $100 gift voucher you would need 15,100 points through the QF store. The Earth Amex earns 1.5 points per $ for domestic spending. Therefore you must spend $10,067 for enough points.
With the Altitude Black you earn 3 points per $ for similar spending and require 18,200 points through Altitude Rewards for a $100 Myer voucher. The required spending is $6,067. That's $4000 less required spending.
I used to be with Altitude but changed to Earth a few years ago. For me, the time has come to change back.
