With my growing disillusionment with QF I decided that I wanted to switch from the Earth Black to Altitude. After a couple of attempts to get through on the Westpac Customer Service line I found the wait times too long. However, a visit to a branch made it very simple to initiate the product switch. The rep in the branch simply made a phone call to verify such a switch was possible and all was done.

I now have to wait for the letter of confirmation, pick up the new cards and switch the couple of direct debits that I still have.
A switch of products to go with a switch of airlines.

Although I wouldn't in any way recommend using the points earned to buy gift vouchers they can be used as an interesting comparison.

For example, to obtain a Myer $100 gift voucher you would need 15,100 points through the QF store. The Earth Amex earns 1.5 points per $ for domestic spending. Therefore you must spend $10,067 for enough points.
With the Altitude Black you earn 3 points per $ for similar spending and require 18,200 points through Altitude Rewards for a $100 Myer voucher. The required spending is $6,067. That's $4000 less required spending.

I used to be with Altitude but changed to Earth a few years ago. For me, the time has come to change back.

My swap was very painful (like most things at Westpac these days), but it's worth it now I've swapped over.

Was your earth limit above $18k?

Yes they put me on hold for 20 minutes to give them time to tell me how important my call was. Thank goodness I could go hands free and actually use the hold time for something else.
Yes the black earth limit was about 4 times your number N860CR and the black altitude limit is about 5 times your number. I do use credit cards a bit more than most.

You can switch cards via internet banking, provided your existing card has the minimum credit limit required for the card you are switching to, which is $15k for Black.

Switch only takes a minute or two.

Thanks for your post AdMEL.
Westpac call centre is a call to waiting a while.

Good to know. I'm not even 100% sure what my limit is without looking it up. Glad you've got my back ;)

I have just applied with the Earth Black as I really wasn't sure which one to choose.

I do maybe one trip in Qantas per year but would prefer to fly CX Per to Lax once a year/every 2 years flying in a business class for the 4 of us...

Silly question...but am I better having the Altitude crediting to Asia miles or earth to Qantas then I can also book cx flights through QFF?

Actually we go PER-SIN-LAX using points off Black altitude on SQ and it is really good.
The other way is to go is a long cut PER-SIN-LHR on SQ then AA points LHR-LAX if you want to do a Round The World.

Cove, how many points is sq business perth - sin - lax?

Do they transfer as full points or only half?

Mine, too, looked like being painful for a while. The rep wanted me to complete a new application for the Altitude card and then just cut up the Earth when it was approved. After a bit of convincing by me that I thought that a product switch should be possible he picked up the phone, got it verified and it was all done fairly quickly. It did take a bit of persuasion on my part that he should try and do the easiest thing for me, the customer, which wasn't to go through another application and approval process.

PER-SIN-LAX in J Saver is 170,000 on line
PER-SIN-LHR in J Saver is 144,500 on line
Westpac Altitude points halve when they transfer from the warehouse.
Standard points are 221,000 to LHR and LAX 272,000 on line for J.
