1. For the 15000 points

2. I meant to imply that I wouldn't use all of it.

And I meant to question why you would bother getting a high credit limit that you would not use.

Me too...will not use it after the initial spend...but my wife and I have taken one each for 30,000 points in total.;)

just a quick query..... i clicked on the link via the qf website (15k points , no 1st yr annual fee) and when completing the application, it asks "'do you have a promotion code?"

do I need to enter some code? as i couldnt find one.

Nor could I, although it seems that you just need to apply by 31 Aug to be eligible. Doesn't seem to be any promo code associated with t.

Hey, great deal- got to jump at these sort of ones.

Does anyone know when the pts are credited to the FF account. When I first spoke to the woman from Westpac she said 5 working days from first transaction. Been a couple of weeks now so obviously this is incorrect?

When I applied for my Earth+ card I was told it may take 5-6 weeks before the FF points would be credited.

Got mine in mid Aug and used it about 30 minutes later :) to book a Qantas trip and so far no points.

Yes I am waiting too..
I am assuming it will be tied to when the statement is done...ie like with QFF Amex.

My first statement has not appeared yet......I assume when it does that about then that the pints will post.

The wife and I signed up this week for the points - according to a CSR that we spoke to, there is some form filling required to get the points...:?:

Not really. If you indicated on the application form that you are not a member of QFF, they would send you an application form for that (complimentary membership) you then send that off to obtain your QFF number and kit, then ring Earth and advise them of the number.

If your already a QFF member, and provided your number during the application process, they should automatically credit the points. If not/unsure, its probably a good idea to ring and check if they (Earth) have it on your file. Points would probably a few weeks after you get the cards.

Thanks Turbo - we are both members so hopefully it will happen automatically - I've already used the Amex card so that's one hurdle cleared.
I continue to find it interesting that the banks/issuers keep on coming out with these offers that essentially provide a pretty decent amount of points for what could amount to minimal returns for them. I'm sure there is a high proportion of savvy FF's out there who will return the cards once the points are through - we'll be doing this with Earth+, as we have done recently after accepting offers from Diners (some fees did apply) and one of the Qantas Amex cards.

With the state of the credit card market, I would guess that much of the marketing of cards would be about generating churn - getting to change from another issuer. This requires some sort of decent incentive to do so. To some extent it has worked on me, but that is because my cards start off with one set of benefits that get watered down over time, so there is an advantage in migrating to a new card.

I have applied for and been approved for the Earth+ card, but just which card will get closed (Earth+ or another) is yet to be decided:)

Well just don't help to kill the Goldern Goose by being too obvious...

I would suggest keeping it for 6 months or so and then cancelling, rather than immediately.

If they get too many cancellations immediately after points are posted they may start to get more restrictive.

I have now gained 100,000 points in 9 months for $0 for my wife and I and am hoping that the incentives continue.

Well I have had my card for about 3 weeks now..

First staement has come though..and the points from my qualifying spend have gone though to the QFF account.....................
......but no bonus points posted.

So rang up customer service and was advised:
  • Bonus Points will normally post in 6 to 8 weeks after first use.
  • If does not post by then..then to call agin.
So I will wait till the next statement...and if no bonus points by then will try again.

I can't say I blame them though....otherwise some might just activate the card and cancel it. This way gives them a chance that some people will use it since they have it.....

and the bank is betting that there is a higher percentage of users who will spend on it, because they have it, thereby justifying the up-front points cost.

I received points for my spend on the card (1:1 as all purchases were with the AMEX), so hopefully I can assume the 15,000 will be on their way shortly.

The points were credited directly into my QFF account, just like the QF AMEX.

Cheers,
- Febs.

My wife applied for an Earth card early July with free QFF membership. Her application was successful and she was issued the card late July only to discover that two days later the 10000 points promotion commenced. Naturally she was some what dissappointed at missing out on the bonus 10000 points, so she refused to spend on the card. About 2 weeks later she received a telephone call from Westpac asking why she had not yet used the card. She told them that she wishes to cancel the card and reapply in order to take advantage of the current points promotion. They advised her that there was no need to reapply for the card and that they would credit her Qantas frequent flyer account directly with 15000 points. About three weeks later her Qantas Frequent Flyer account was credited with 15000 points. She only commenced spending on her Earth card when the bonus were in her account.

Cheers
Sheriff

I am almost certain that for every savvy FF out there you will find at least one sucker, like me, who does not return the card but continues to use it and pay interest for ever and a day.

It is great to have all these credit card deals and collect FF points along the way but there will come a time when most credit card deals will cease to be available due to a previous application.

Just interested to know how many times can someone apply for an Earth or Earth+ card, receive FF points, cancel card, re-apply with new offer, receive FF points, cancel card etc etc. Has anyone succeeded in getting the FF points for an offer more than once?

The whole thing is a game of statistices for the banks. A certain number will keep the card (possibly closing some other card), some will close the card after getting the points, some may never use the card (apart from meeting minimum requirements). This would all be in the models they create. And they do measure the effectiveness of these campaigns after the event.

I doubt it could go oon for long, especially if you get a credit check each time it happens. Also, banks like Westpac have fairly sophisticated CRM and other systems, that keep track of your overall value to the bank. I imagine it would form part of their scoring.

I have only just joined up for my first earth,,as has my wife.

We have both however gained two lots of Qantas Amex points.....but I have noted that they have changed their fine print to prevent it now (ie gaining a second lot of points from the one card). It does seem that you can still gain points from Amex provided it is adifferent type of card.

However once the Earth points post it will be 100,000 points that the two of us have gained in total in 9 months for nil cost;)
