Hi everyone,

Last month I travelled around the States with AA and expected my Qantas FF account to be credited with status credits and points. I rang up Qantas and they said discount fares (O,Q) on AA do not earn status credits or points. If this is true its a bit of disapointment as its one of the main reasons why I flew AA.

If you need to pay for fully flexible tickets to earn points and status credits it doesn't seem worth it as you end up paying several hundred dollars more???

Cheers,

Martin

No you don't need fully flexible tickets but it does depend on the class of ticket you booked. See the link above which confirms that O, Q classes do not earn points or S/C.

At the bottom of the QFF T&C’s is a list of airlines and the fares that will earn.

From that link I can see you can earn with discount economy fares, so long as they’re "GLMNSV".

Thanks very much for this Sam, also how do you tell when you are booking a flight that there GLMSSV instead or O,V?

If booking through the (US) AA site, when you reach the 'Review and Pay' step the code is displayed (e.g. Booking Code: N) - you still have not committed at this stage. Unsure about the Oz AA site.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I can't for the life of me find how many status credits you can earn with AA or any other partner airlines. I'm flying to the US twice within the next 6 months and have several AA flights. All in business. Any idea where I can find how many points you can earn. Is it the same format as QF with miles etc?
Thanks for your advice.

It's the same. But remember AA only have J cabins on certain routes in LOTFAP and mostly only have Y and F cabins. Those F cabins earn at F rates! Even though they're just like dom J in product.

See post #6 this thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ogram/how-research-book-aa-instant-42433.html

It gives good detail on how to calculate SC earn with points.

Guys does anyone know if there is any status bonus on number of points earnt on AA flights ?
E.g., QF flights SGs earn 75% more points as a "status bonus" regardless of class flown.

For AA is this status bonus also 75% ?

Thanks

These things are set out in the Terms and Conditions of the program (Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions). Specifically in this case section 9.5.2

9.5.2 A Status bonus will be applied for Eligible Flights with a Qantas (QF), Jetstar Airlines (JQ, 3K and VF only excluding Jetstar Japan(GK)) or American Airlines[SUP]®[/SUP] (AA) flight number. For travel on eligible Qantas (QF) and Jetstar (JQ, 3K and VF only excluding Jetstar Japan(GK)) flights, the Status bonus for Silver Members will be 50% of the Base Rate, 75% for Gold Members and 100% for Platinum Members. For travel on eligible American Airlines flights the Status bonus for Silver Members will be 25% of the Base Rate, 75% for Gold Members and 100% for Platinum Members. Status bonuses do not apply to Classic Awards.

I had a quick read of the terms and conditions and it seems that after 30th March 2013 there's no status bonus on any other Oneworld partner airline except AA !

I didn't know that...

Pretty much it. BA got dropped off the list...
