Hi all,

Just wanted to post my recent experience as I earned SCs on a complimentary Amex flight. From reading other posts the general concensus is that these flights do not receive points / SCs, so I thought it would be worth posting.

Please delete this thread if this information is widely known and I'm out of the loop.

If anyone's interested in the process used..
- called Amex and booked the flight
- called VA to confirm baggage allowance and to add my velocity number for additional allowance
- booking then showed my velocity number prior to check in
- SCs and a few points were posted to my account ~24 hrs after the flight

SCs were the same as a saver fare and the points were 140 + status bonus.

This was also my experience recently on a flight to NZ via Amex Reserve card redemption. Didn't think I should advertise it!!!

This is newish. It used to be the case that you could do it easily via a credit shell, stopped for a few years, now it appears to be back even simpler.

Hi all,

SCs were the same as a saver fare and the points were 140 + status bonus.

So one would assume the flight that you took cost amex just $28 ? (140 divided by 5 points per dollar usually earnt on normal paid flights)

Nice trick. We only just used ours, but didn't add the Velocity numbers as I thought "no way would they earn". Bugger!

(Would have to make them the cheapest VA status credits on offer)!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Mine was slightly different when I used it for a flight to Brisbane last month. I just called Amex and booked the flight - though it was an unusually long hold at the time and I was told that they had been slammed in that two week period. They were able to get me the flights I wanted - never had any issues getting the flights I wanted. They had my Velocity FF number on record but I re-confirmed it. When I received confirmation I just plugged it into the Velocity booking information and picked my seats. SCs and points were allocated as mentioned. I received 10SCs each way.

I definitely didn't earn on my recent use of the complimentary flights. Refer below.

Used my comp flight on Sunday 13 Sept. " Not valid for Earn" today on my account summary..

Not luck here

I have the Amex Platinum Reserve. From reading the previous posts it appears that there may be SC earn if the booking is through Amex Platinum Reserve.

It definitely didn't earn for me in January using the velocity Amex despite the fares booking into an eligible fare bucket. Came through as 'not valid for earn' at the time.

non reserve card here, and did not get any Scs.

I got them for the NZ reserve flight but not for the plat edge domestic.

Can anyone confirm the Amex Reserve flight still earns SC's. I have a flight coming up and I am curious. I was awarded Points and Sc's back in September 2015. Thanks
