I've noticed "earlybird" specials to the UK/Europe/Canada being advertised at the moment for travel in the Northern Summer next year.

However, I havn't seen any for the U.S. Do they normally exist for the U.S, or do you just have the standard high season fares?

(may end up getting a DONE4/LONE4/ other ATW combo fare for this anyway, but still wanting to see some decent point to point fares to compare against)

Where have you seen these fares advertised?

I'm looking to fly north in June and July next year, so bring it on!

Thanks

I'm still looking around for any earlybird fares - but still can't find any.

Does anyone know enough about fares to the U.S to advise if a sale will commence / early bird specials will be available?

(Of course I know that flights to LAX/SFO etc are extremely overpriced and not really competitive, but I still live in hope!)

I was advised today (from 2 travel agents) that earlybird fares will be released tomorrow (Sunday 19th Nov 06).

This coincides with the Flight Centre Travel Expo in Sydney tomorrow also.

I still can't see any forms of discount fares to the United States in mid/late July 2007.

I'm assuming that they won't turn up and might as well buy a standard ticket.

Has anyone seen anything (preferably on OneWorld) or know of when they might be released?

I am just bumping up this post to see if anybody has heard of USA specials yet.

We are are travelling in September 2007 from Brisbane to Miami, Florida, then to San Diego, then home to Brisbane.

Was advised to wait until January 2007 for specials but I haven't seen any yet. Am I being too impatient

August/September is peak time and I have been looking for a couple of weeks for a flight to Seattle on 1st August, but the best I could find at the moment with a t/f in SFO or LAX is $2730 (incl taxes). I contacted Flight Centre who told me they have their expo this weekend at Darling Harbour in Sydney and they "may" have some special deals on offer. She also said they will offer any deals at the expos at all Flight Centres so will just to wait and see.

 Have you considered what's available currently?

e.g. Ex SYD, fly QF to HNL return for AUD1300pp, then book AA for HNL-MIA, MIA-SAN and SAN-HNL from USD830pp (~AUD1080) for a total of AUD2390pp.

serfty - is that price inclusive of taxes and fuel charges?
Do you think I should wait or book that one. I would hate to book now and next week I can fly for lesser price without going to HNL.

It looks like I might go via Vancouver on Air New Zealand as it is cheaper, even though the flights go through LAX. This is from ZUJI

Those prices are inclusive. (For non inclusive prices I use the +++ designator.)

As far as you booking flights now or waiting, that is up to you. The $1300 QF HNL fares are for sale until 26 Feb so you have a month or so to consider.

serfty - where are you getting those quotes. I tried webjet and AA and I get similar but not the same.

Thanks for your help so far - this is terrifc!

This should get you statred.
  • Go to AA.com, the Home page should appear.
  • Click on "MORE OPTIONS" in the reservations frame. The "Book a Flight" (Round Tip) page will appear.
  • Select the "Multi-City" tab at the top. The "Multi-City Flight Search" will show.
  • For "Flight 1", enter HNL in "From:" , MIA in "To:" and your departure travel date and time from HNL.
  • For "Flight 2", enter MIA in "From:" , SAN in "To:" and your departure date and time from MIA.
  • For "Flight 3", enter SAN in "From:" , HNL in "To:" and your departure date and time from SAN.
  • Select the "Search by Fare" 'radio button'.
  • Choose 50 as the "Number of Flights to Display" (optional, but it give a better selection)
  • Choose you passenger numbers.
  • Select "Economy - 'With Restrictions'"
  • Any of the "Chose a Carrier" options will be fine in this case.
  • In the "Country of Residence:" area select your preference. (Base this on the method you intend to use to pay for the flight as mentioned here: Best way to book an AA (US dom) flight? and here: Arrgh! It's painful buying tickets online!)
  • Click on GO
The above is not that complicated. Once you click GO you will be given a list of up to 50 flight combinations that meet your criteria with he least expensive first. Note that +++ of about USD63pp will be added to the fare selected.

Thanks Serfty for your excellent instructions. I must admit I hadn't seen the "more options" before.

I have heaps to look at and will read the best way to book an AA flight. With the flights going via HNL I like the idea of not going through LAX international:cool: . However, I have a feeling we will be having more air time going via HNL, but I suppose that is the price you pay if you are looking for cheaper alternatives.

I will also have to do some careful planning to ensure our flights from BNE to HNL and back match up with the AA ones.

I have to wonder is this all worth it in the end or is it less stress free to hand this over to a TA and pay the more $$$.

Has anybody ever thought of designing a website that meets the specific requirements airfares such as what I am asking above? Maybe there is one out there already?

If I were to fly AA from HNL, and QF/Hawaiin Airlines from BNE to HNL, how much time should I allow for the connecting flights, ie arriving HNL and departing HNL for Miami?

Also, would we be going through customs in Hawaii? I noticed one of the choices shows a direct flight from San Diego to HNL without going via LAX:cool: .

Also I saw the specials for Oz to Hawaii on Best Flights on Hawaiin Airlines. Serfty, is this where you saw the special? You mentioned below "QF" flight for $1300.

I must say booking through AA looks very attractive. I even added a Key West flight segment to SAN (rather than MIA to SAN). Would you believe it it comes out cheaper adding in an additional segment - mind you we would have to fly MIA, Fort Lauderdale/LAX to get there.

Now does anybody expect Qantas to drop their fuel charges on flights to the US?

Personally I would be looking for 2.5 to 3 hours as a comfortable connection at HNL.

Yes, immigration and customs must be completed at you first point of entry into the USA.

Note that the HNL-LAX-MIA direct flight is operated by a 767-300 aircraft, while anything through SAN is going to be 757 at best. LAX is not a bad airport to transit if not needing to do immigration/customs there. Terminal 4 is quite ok and has a good Admirals Club if you have access.

Flight Centre are having a series of their travel expo's coming up during Feb and March.

They might have some good deals, but I wouldn't expect anything too special that you can't find anywhere else:

Flight Centre - Travel Expo!

Think I'll head along and see if they can give me a good pricing for my trip, but doubt they'll be able to beat the ATW I have found and still retain OneWorld flying.

QF Web site "Honolulu" sale ex SYD 'till 26 Feb. FWIW ex BNE in September is from $1470pp (via SYD).

Have you looked at the Air Tahiti Nui fares being offered by Best Flights? I was looking for early bird deals for ages and nothing came out so I snapped one of the Air Tahiti ones. Not the most well known of airlines but seems to get good write ups. You can credit your points on the flight to AA if you want to credit to a one world program. Just make sure you check the booking class.
