DXB-MEL not showing QF10 on QF site?

I'm trying to book MEL-DXB-Europe (not London) and return. On the way out I can get QF9, but on the way back QF10 is only shown if I detour from wherever I am to London first (which adds another 7-8 hours from where I'll be, not that keen), it does not show just the DUB-MEL leg, only EK is offered. The only option is QF2 DXB-SYD then SYD-MEL domestic (I guess that'd give me another 10-15 SC ...).
Any idea why? Surely not all people boarding in London go through to MEL?

Only reason I want it is to try the points upgrade roulette on the DXB-MEL leg (just silver, so slim chances already), but on EK-operated no chance of that.

I suppose I can ring them, but just curious to see if people know the explanation.

Edited: DXB/Dubai, not Dublin, thanks The Rok :)

QF Don't fly to Dublin, its an EK aircraft....

Without knowing where you are starting your journey, my first guess would be that EK don't have a flight(or there isn't any availablity on a flight) that connects with QF 10 from that place. But it does have a flight that connects with QF 2 and I am guessing EK 406 to MEL, which leaves around the same time as QF 2.

Personally, I would go with QF2 via SYD (Customs & Immigration cleared there-and yes, I know how busy SYDi can be!!!), and then QFd back to MEL.
Once you have been C&I cleared, getting the QF seamless bus is a cinch.
Some people don't like the QF seamless bus transfer from SYDi to SYDd, but for me, its a great way to have a look at planes close up. Granted its from the bus window of course.

Without knowing the departure date or your origin, it's a little hard to say. But I'm guessing that either the DXB-MEL leg is full, or at least the quota for DXB-MEL (highly unlikely) or the EK flight doesn't connect well with QF10 from DXB.

Have you tried using the multi-city booking tool and adding DXB as a "stopover"?

Thanks for the feedback, guessing the time in DXB waiting between planes would be too much so it's put aside. Not that keen to add a few hours to the return trip to do the SYD-MEL leg though. I'll try the stopover thing.
Thanks again for the feedback.
