Dear AFF Team - after some advice on the range/value of single malts at Narita T2 duty free outlets for purchase on the way home? Pricing on the ground at shops here for whisky has been decent compared to home. We are also enjoying trying some of the Japanese single malts. Cheers.

Last time I tried, admittedly at HND, they were literally sold out of everything but Hakushu 12. Not a single aged single malt left.

The range is mainly Hakushu and Nikka from memory.

When are you going? Can check in about a week, will be in HND with a mate in NRT same time.

Thanks Cynicor - it will be similar timing so let's compare notes. If I see something of good value on the ground this week I might just buy it then and there.

We only had a quick look in one of the FaSoLa duty free shops near the JAL first class lounge at T2. The range was limited for Japanese and Scottish whisky, but they did have what we were looking for which was Yoichi - our favourite of the Japanese varieties we tried during our trip. It was approx $A60 for 700ml of the 21yr old.

I just returned from Japan & was under strict instructions to bring back some Yamazake which was sold out of every duty free store in Narita T2. If that's the one you're looking for it would be worth asking about its availability on the way into Japan to see if you can secure some for when you leave, if that makes sense. I found a review that may help, Google - dtwc.com.au - 'The Distant Thunder Whisky Club: In And Out - Buying Whisky Duty Free in Japan'

Good luck!
