So, it's been a while since I've done a multi leg OS trip, and I'm a little confused regarding duty free alcohol.

We're heading from Adelaide to Auckland, spending the night (and next day) in Auckland, then off to Rarotonga (Cook Islands).

If we want booze for the stay in Raro, are we meant to buy it as we are leaving NZ, or as we arrive in Raro? Which limits do we have to adhere to? the NZ ones or the CI ones?

Cheers,
Nick

DUTY FREE going into The Cooks:

The inbound duty is two litres of spirits or two litres of wine and 200 cigarettes (or equivalent). Personal items (including sporting equipment are not dutiable. I’m told that outbound duty free cigarettes are the cheapest in the world.

Duty Free into Auckland per adult

Not more than 3 bottles of spirits (up to a maximum of 1125ml each)
4.5 litres of Wine, port, Sherry, Champagne (six bottles) or beer (12 cans).
200 cigarettes or 250 gms of tobacco or 50 cigars
NZ $700 of other goods purchased Duty Free or overseas.

the limits leaving NZ comply with the limits going into Raro.

Welcome both to AFF :D

Any duty free liquids over 100ml you take into New Zealand will need to be packed into your checked luggage for the NZ to Raratonga segment. This is because you will not be able to take it airside as carry on.

Certainly you'd be nuts to purchase Duty Free in Oz to take to NZ.

NZ duty free tends to be about 25% cheaper than Oz duty free when using the 20% member discount on Duty Free Stores New Zealand - Free delivery to all Airports . I don't know how Raratonga D/F may be priced.

If you wish to pick up in NZ, simply order and pay at least 3 working days before your flight to Raratonga. Print out the two emails you will receive.

On the day of your flight, check in as normal and proceed though emigration & security.

As soon as you pass though you will see a huge hall of duty free - look immediately to your right and back a bit and you will see the "Collection Point". Take out your order documentation and pick up your order.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Agree with serfty, you need to register online and they do some great specials where you pick it up from an airport counter (not shop)

Look at fx rates as well and you will work out the bargins

Duty free doesn't mean profit free!
