I will be flying from Manchester to London Heathrow, then onward to Dallas Fort Worth, with a short stop over before boarding an onward flight to Houston. Where is the best place to buy Duty Free? Can I buy in Heathrow ? I recently purchased liquor in Mumbai, forgetting that I would be connecting with a domestic flight in the UK, so was not allowed to take the liquor on board, although it was security sealed and I could produce the receipt. I was informed that the security in Mumbai was not considered as good as EU countries. Fortunately I was able to fit it into my handbag and had to place my handbag in checked luggage, after removing valuables. The liquor was particularly expensive so I would have been very upset if it had been taken off me. Hats off to the BA employee at security, his customer service skills were excellent.

There's quite a few threads here that have posts stating it's hardly worth buying duty free in the USA as it is generally cheaper landside (e.g. from Costco).

It really depends on what you are after.

You would need to (re)clear security and consider LAG regulation at LHR and DFW.

You could buy at LHR, but would have to put large bottles into you checked luggage before reclearing security at DFW for IAH.

I agree with serfty, don't bother with the hassle of Duty Free to the US. The allowance is a very small amount (1 litre from memory), you have LAG rules even for dom, and all that hassle to save perhaps $2 (if even that) since booze is extremely cheap over there...

Well that is one less thing to worry about , thanks guys, not worth the hassle, I agree.
