Hi all,
I am 21 year old Australian, born and breed, however my father is a US citzen. When i was younger, my parents applied for Dual Citzenship, both Aust and US passport.
My US passport has expired now (it was valid from when i was 9-14 year old). do i have to renew it to go back to the US. I am leaving in 4 days, spare of the moment and its out of date
Any advice

My understanding is that the US requires its citizens to use a US passport at US immigration in the same way that Australia requires the same of its subjects.

My advice would be to phone the US Embassy and ask for advice

I believe that you require the US passport to enter the US and the AUS passport to enter AUS if you have dual citizenship. Somebody I know had to do that, and you will most likely need a new US passport - but it's too late now, they won't issue a passport in the US and get it to Australia within 4 days.
I would contact the Australian department of the US Embassy as mentioned above by Dave Noble as soon as possible to get the needed advice.

I am also a dual Aussie-US citizen and yes, you do need to enter the US on a US passport. I am not sure how they know you are a US citizen if you try to enter as an Aussie, but post 911, I wouldn't want to find out the hard way.
