Thanks for the suggestion shellthom!

I'm about to head out to Mrs Macquaries Chair for a recce. It seemed to be the best spot to get both the bridge and Opera House in shot. Fort Denison ferries don't start until 1030.

That spire in the foreground of Shellthoms roof is a bit of an annoyance, maybe a short ladder would fix that. The Sydney skyline in the background is a winner though.

Plus I don't know where he lives. I'd give it consideration though. It's got some height which is always good.

And don't worry, I'll be posting pics.

If I were home...
I have tripods and photography paraphernalia galore.
Yes, please everyone post pics :)

It's North Sydney, less than 1 minute walk from the train station. I'm now undecided if I'll go to shellthom's or Blues Point Reserve but if anyone wants to go there, just ask shellthom and you'll get directions :)

Tony I need to learn how to photoshop things like the Iranians and the North Koreans.
Did that A380 land in PER or did it go up to Singapore/Mel/SYD??
How are you doing with those French lessons? Go the champagne and you may find their language easier. Then move on to French restaurant menus.

It's a slow weekend at Hancock Hall! Can't seem to find anything remotely productive to do!! That's the problem with two weeks annual leave!!

Perth does not do A380s so do your best photographs for us.

Nancy Bird has been to PER previously and so has an EK 380 a couple of years ago!
If the airport authority would hurry up as EK are looking to introduce a 380 service into PER!

Whilst not on the harbour you get very good views from Rosebay to the Bridge and Opera House from the food hall below Great Union cinemas at Westfield Bondi Junction. It will provide a nice panorama and perspective of this event. Also with the stores closed on Easter Sunday (the cinemas are open) it will be easy to get a parking spot

There's a good shooting platform at Mrs Macquaries Chair. If EK is above and to the right of QF I think the money shot is going to be the two aircraft heading East, framed by the SHB and Opera House.

From that vantage point, though, it's still quite close. Way too close to use my 70-300 zoom. So I went into the city and bought a new 28-105 L series on the way home. Haha.

Also wanted to try out Bradleys Head, but the traffic was atrocious, so I gave up.

I found Shellthom's place (on the PC) pretty easy thanks to Google Maps and that church spire. It will make a nice shot when they are inbound, but not sure about the view looking West.

IMO, Blues Point Reserve would be a great viewing area but not great for photos.

What does everyone think-

From Bradley's Head (web shot). I might be tempted to go out there with the big lens:

QF A380 and EK A380 Joint Sydney Flyover 31 March

Is this posted elsewhere?

From SMH:
"For 10 minutes on Sunday morning two colossuses of the sky will fly tight & low over the harbour bridge ... the first time two A380's have ever flown in formation ..."
The crew's come from a military background and have been training in a simulator.
I'm hope to find an observation deck for at least the takeoff after 10:00.

They won't be taking off or lading in formation, so I would expect those aspects will be ordinary. Hope they are gentle, the QF bird will operate QF1 later in the day.

Re: QF A380 and EK A380 Joint Sydney Flyover 31 March

They could do some ambush marketing by heading southwards to do a fly over Etihad Stadium and the MCG if they have an extra hour or so to spare.
Would that be a marketing coup??

No need for that I could probably knock up the photos for QF..... :p

Re: QF A380 and EK A380 Joint Sydney Flyover 31 March

So if everyone goes to a different vantage point we will have a lovely array of angles and photos.. I think there should be discussion around not being in the same place rather than everyone trying to find "the one" place to be :)
....
I just want to feel like I was there.. if we stayed home this weekend we could have watched it out the lounge room or spare room window... but really we would go to the roof.
