DST - wind your clocks forward

Ahh, reminds me of Spain this summer (winter here). Same sort of thing. Works. ...
Spain has their own built in Daylight saving all year round by operating on continental European time even though most of the country is west of the "Prime Meridian".

It's even more pronounced during the European Daylight savings period with the Sun rising in Madrid at 8:06AM and setting at 8:06PM during the recent equinox.

Their summer solstice was on 21st June with sunrise at 6:45AM and sunset at 9:48PM.

Compare this with Rome with 7:01AM and 07:00PM for the equinox and 5:34AM and 8:48PM for the solstice.

During Spain's most recent winter solstice, the sun rose in Madrid at 8:35AM and set at 5:52PM.

You mean selling off assets and... :p

 (I hope to profit from that, maybe not as much as I did from Qld TAB)

I do agree the whole idea of DST anywhere sometimes makes very little sense, but sometime when everyone else jumps, you have to as well, or you're on your own, in the wrong spot in this case :(

This is where I switch sides. I moved to South Australia from Brisbane a few years ago and was very unconvinced about DST. But after the first summer down there I could see the value. It is great to be able to get up in the relative cool and go to work and then have daylight in the evening to use. But the climate is rather different so the question of heat doesn't really come in to play. I think my second summer down there the minimum temperature didn't drop below about 25 or 30 for January. (I was in the north of SA)

Whereas in Queensland I'm with Drron regarding the temperature. There is plenty of day up there and it doesn't make sense to move the hottest part of the day to happen later.

But exclude the Sunshine coast please. Now that I once again usually working whilst home I prefer the extra hours sunlight in the morning when I can get in a round of golf before work when it is relatively cool. After work it is just too hot and humid.
Writing this just gave me an idea.Because most people will wake at the same natural hour and most are therefore in QLD experiencing an extra hour of the heat wont there be more use of air conditioners if QLD introduces DST.So if you believe in climate change-say NO to DST.

Time for the BNE QP to bring out the dreaded "Bar opens at 2pm sign.
(Wipes remaining egg fragments off face) Surprise, surprise - the BNE QP bar was open at noon earlier this week, first time in my DST memory.
