On 2 nights I picked up some fish and chips from Fraggles. It was recommended.OK but not brilliant.
Flathead with chips and battered scallops one night and pink ling with the same another.

I then got some pizzas from Rocking Hot pizza.
Now because my Scots heritage kicked in I ordered takeaway at the restaurant as by doing that it was cheaper-all large pizzas $19.Again OK but not fantastic.I got the rockin hot pizza-certainly quite spicy, the Aussie pizza which was ok and the bush pig with pulled pork which I felt was the best.It did 2 dinners and 2 lunches which was fine as I didn't want to brave the elements again.
So the bush pig.

RooFlyer as long as the fish inside is tasty and moist i don't mind what the outside looks like. But as I said I didn't think this place would make it to a best fish shop list.

suze200 there is a thread on this for Tasmania.
Around Launceston it for me is Tinnies,Exeter bakery and Trevallyn bakery.
As for fish and chips my favourite is fish on the Edge Wivenhoe-Burnie suburb.

But on with the show.On Friday morning it was bitterly cold but for the first time a good view of the sunrise.I am standing beside my car as I am about to leave for work at 0745.

I was on call this week which meant I worked the weekend.Worked out well as the Friday plane to MEL went ~ midday so otherwise I would have waited until Monday to fly home anyway and the weather was miserable.
On Sunday I was able to get a reservation at Me Wah an upmarket Chinese restaurant. It was very good.I had the roast duck and hokkien noodles with pork and mushroom.
1593327249883.jpeg.1593327273832.jpeg.

Both were excellent.Washed down with a glass of Rockfords 2016 Rod & Spur shiraz cabernet blend.Quite an extensive wine list.

And it was part of Amex shop small!

Absolutely no trace of pineapple l_t_l.

The weekends work was really enjoyable but now time to get home.Though I could check out of the apartment at 1100 the road in front was metered parking from 0900.So I left just as the Post Office bells chimed 0900.First up was to go to the hospital and drop in my timesheet and say goodbye to a few of the staff.By the main lifts they have a picture of the microbiologist working hard on Covid research.

Well might have been if it was around in 1901.
After that I drove to the northern side of the Gorge.

On the way to City Park and still a little autumn.
1593342261978.jpeg.1593342280238.jpeg.

Not too much colour in City Park at this time of year and the Conservatory was closed.

But it doesn't matter if it is winter the macaques are happy.

More of the macaques and some grooming.

Outside the monkey enclosure is the Memorial to the South african War aka Boer War.I noticed this time that more died of disease than in battle.
1593595643127.jpeg.1593595659792.jpeg.

I then had a cup of coffee at the cafe there to warm myself up.

I decided then to head for Lilydale for a change of scenery.Headed out through Newnham.
1593595821733.jpeg.1593595838274.jpeg.

And the typical Launceston winter thermal inversion and smoke haze.

Over the hills and the air clears.

Suburban Lilydale.

Having plenty of time I looked over their Cenotaph.Originally the town was officially Upper Piper but was known as Germantown because of the large numbers of German immigrants. It changed name to Lilydale in 1887.The Cenotaph mainly celebrates the areas WW1 history.More than 300 signed up from this small town in WW1.It was one of the few places to vote for conscription in both referenda. Many of the German immigrant descendants signed up.

1593686775741.jpeg.1593686792416.jpeg.

The Cenotaph was built in 2015 after a grant from the Commonwealth.

It was built on land donated by a local who did not really respect or trust the Tasmanian government.

I took a couple of short detours on the way back to Launceston.first by Underwood which is described as a locality.
1593687113375.jpeg.1593687125683.jpeg.

1593687145938.jpeg.1593687161903.jpeg.

and it's one house.
1593687193863.jpeg.1593687209547.jpeg.

A nice little diversion.

Then via the Hollybank forest. There is an Adventure park here with ziplines.but I just drove around the forest.
1593687307355.jpeg.1593687318728.jpeg.

Then back over the hills to the Tamar valley.
1593687360369.jpeg.

Found this in Newnham.
1593687392801.jpeg.

Probably not connected to the house over the road.
1593687439136.jpeg.

I had decided that I wasn't going to have anything great to eat on my flights back to BNE that evening so i decided to have a late lunch at Kosaten.A good decision.
Started out with sashimi salmon and sashimi scallops.the scallops are superb.
1593774841069.jpeg.1593774855778.jpeg.

All washed down with the only beer I hadn't tried.Thought it might have been Japanese.
1593774924222.jpeg.1593774946982.jpeg.

So it turns out to be Victorian.Goes well with the Japanese meal though.
On to chicken karage and tempura oysters.I love both.
1593775032337.jpeg.1593775150128.jpeg.

Then finished with one of my favourites.Miso marinated eggplant.
1593775211613.jpeg.1593775228550.jpeg.

a great way to finish. So now time to head for the airport.

I was at the airport quite early.About 2.5 hours before departure.normally check in would not be open at LST that early but there was already a line and people being checked in.Obviously quite a few not wanting to miss their flight out of Tassie. They had offered a third weekly flight though.
The report of the flights are here.

Quite a bit of time to kill and the lounge was closed. So read a book. Was able to finish it by the time i reached BNE.A good read.
1593775869340.jpeg.

So just a few pics after take off from LST as the sun had just set. After that dark all the way.The windows were quite dirty and there was the usual LST haze for this time of year.
1593776143831.jpeg.1593776163914.jpeg.

1593776182359.jpeg.1593776200680.jpeg.

1593776219233.jpeg.1593776300319.jpeg.

1593776317557.jpeg.1593776331428.jpeg.

1593776346638.jpeg.

And that's all folks.Great to be in a warmer clime.

Not surprisingly we will have a few Victorians joining us on the Coast-Melbourne Storm,Carlton and St.Kilda all going to be based here for a while.

Loved following your few weeks in Lonnie drron. I still have rellies there as well as former colleagues at the LGH... thx for helping them out during this time!

Update ... this seems the place to put it

There has been a long running campaign from the locals to get a posthumous award of the Victoria Cross. In fact today it has got back to another Inquiry in Canberra.
I hope you don't mind a little excursion here, drron. I've been ambivalent about the posthumous VC for Sheehan, until the most recent Federal review which unanimously recommended it be granted (for those not familiar, its a long running campaign that has been blocked in Canberra for years):

New inquiry has recommended the VC for Sheean and PM has put it to Her Maj. I hope that sticks in the craw of the Chief of Defence, Angus Campbell (see post #102)

Senator Jacqui Lambie is going all out for the award, but unfortunately, typical of her style, she thinks personally and emotionally attacking the Prime Minister is a useful strategy.

And to celebrate the PM's recommending the VC, after maybe 5 others considered and failed to do so, Lambie has again attacked the PM. All mouth that one.
