While this trip didn't proceed for various reason of which I'm not fully aware the news today means that future trips might be harder if not impossible.

Through its not-for-profit entity, Transport Heritage NSW, the government served 3801 Limited with a termination notice and locked the company out of the workshop, granting it restricted access only to remove its property.


As a result, 3801 has been forced to cancel its upcoming tours runs, and with lost income now mounting well into five figures, one of the state's key heritage rail operators is now in a precarious financial state.

Let's hope the OP is able to advise soon if this closure will adversely affect future trips.
 
The fact that BAM1748 is not listed on 3801's website listing of their carriages would indicate that you are likely (and happily) correct.
Not sure where the BAM is parked, but probably with the CFCLA Chairpersons car that he brought along previously as well. Pretty sure BAM1748 has a close tie in with Transport Heritage NSW (I have seen their diesel with THNSW events) and Lachlan Valley Railway (the later owning the steam loco used on the previous BAM trip to the Hawksbury, and which has been stored at the large erecting shop at times).

My guess he has been forced to concentrate on work and just didn't have the time to sort out what is a substantial amount of paper work to secure paths (slots in flying terms) across the rail network.

For those who still remember the last great day out on the BAM, I can tell you all that BAM1748 is (quietly) back in AFF land. He has had an enforced sabbatical, but We have had a chat via a PM , and things are slowly returning to normal.
 
Good to hear. We did the CBR trip a couple of years ago and had a great time
 
The Canberra trip was great, with the long lunch in Goulbourn along the way.

We ended up staying on in Canberra for a couple days, enjoying some lovely restaurants and a bit of sightseeing

Thanks for being patient everyone, late last year a bit of a personal family disaster, and then another and another and people I knew departing the lounge for good one Sydney train driver who I'd travelled on my first OS trip with decades back dropping dead on the footpath in Bangkok a month after he passed his medical.

I looked in the mirror and thought geez that could be me next, I'm the one who is now 50 and unfit.

All good now and I can resassure people the BAM is parked in Goulburn with the work car. They haven't been anywhere either so they'll need a dust off.

Have always wanted to go on the BAM so we had better get you moving with a bit of exercise and healthy eating. You are only 50 so time is on your side.

I've not been on a BAM trip yet as something has always gotten in the way.
Hopefully I get to enjoy one soon.

Best of luck getting where you want to be! Health is hard but at 50 it's normally not too late, and can be quite easy to turn around with the right motivation.
 
Hey, Matt @BAM1748 - good to see you back! Let me know if you need help with a dusting day. A Goulburn trip is always on the cards.

Did a Blue Mountains run to Lithgow a few weeks ago with the transport provided by Lachlan Valley folk. The trip was intended to be steam, but something (not conveyed to me) made that untenable, so they switched to running three 1940s railmotors. It was still a heap of fun... celebrating a picnic in 1876 which introduced frozen food to the world.
