No reason why the CL, unlikely every other lounge, couldn't have a dress code ;)
;)

I would love to see a reasonable dress code introduced! Hi-viz, smart casual is fine but the singlets, thongs, etc, not a good look IMHO.
It's a club with entry requirements and restrictions; dress should be one of them.

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

I dont think the average person who has saved their 200 woolies points each week for 10 years is going to buy qantas club membership with them.... Maybe im wrong, but i dont think that would be a big problem

Who knows. If you use your credit points wisely esp with a business spend they ratchet up very quickly.

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

Club Access raises an interesting issue though. You can become a member of the Qantas Club through using points and never having flown. Which is I guess why they stopped anytime access..

I cannot think of any relationship between paid qantas club and anytime access. 2 separate "products" that do not cross over.

Indeed. ATA was only for WP, not QP members.

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

i did discuss dress standards and access to lounges etc with Leslie so on topic JK.
For way too many years kids have been told to be themselves and to do what they want and unfortunately one of the by-products is not having any idea about acceptable dress standards.

I saw a youngish couple the other day at Toowong Village with her wearing thongs (on her feet) and holding her sneakers. What the?

Singlets, shorts and thongs have a place and that is at the beach or in your own home. Don't start wearing them everywhere and then tell me that I have to start accepting inadequate dress standards because you feel like rebelling.

Oh and I have no problem discriminating against people who have no dress standards.

Those young people. No idea at all!:)

JohnK, perhaps you mean you have no problem discriminating against people that have different dress standards to yourself:?:

The key words here are: "dress" and "standard"
Dress, fairly self-explanatory I would have thought. What you wear, your clothing and appearance.
Standard: a level of quality or attainment, an idea or thing used as a measure, norm or model in comparative evaluations…
By definition discriminatory. No less valid though and no negative connotations using the term IMHO.

Not quite. My dress standards are conservative and have been accepted by society for a long, long time.

I do not consider ripped, torn, faded, clothing a fashion statement. Nor are they an appropriate dress standard. In fact it is totally incosiderate of those around you.

I do not consider singlets, shorts and thongs appropriate for the majority of the places I visit.

I find a lot of the clothes (or lack of) people wear these days an insult to intelligence and really do not understand why the need to rebel so much. I will never accept lack of dress standards and I will judge the people who participate.

And yes I can ignore it but it is difficult to walk with my head down or with my eyes closed....

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

I remember (in the good old days) when to be a member of the QC was something special. Children were not seen often in the lounges and when they did they were expected to sit quietly with their parents (as ours did on the rare occasions we flew) and certainly were not allowed to go near the buffet and get their own food or soft drinks. The standard of dress was high - casual clothing was the exception, no shorts, midriff tops or thongs, jeans were rare, most men wore a collared shirt. Looking around the other day, I was somewhat saddened by the way standards have fallen. I know times change, including ideas of acceptable dress and people are more tolerant of children (and seem to turn a blind eye to rugrats screaming and running around), but I can't help thinking sometimes that it is probably better out with the masses! (Now that is sad). The higher standard of dress was also reflected in what people wore when flying - they did not look like they had just come in from 2 hours gardening.
The J lounges can be just as bad as QP and I would welcome a "dress standard" code - certainly I would like to see shoes in that as there were bare feet the other day!
Consider me old fashioned if you like.

Qantas club used to be anytime access for domestic. As long as you were a member you could turn up and have a drink/snack. That has now changed and you are required to have a QF/JQ bp.

An exceedingly long time ago. That has changed sometime in the last, about, 1000 years.

You guys would have been shocked at the number of CL members in jeans and t shirts last Tuesday. Pretty sure I even saw someone in shorts!

When travelling I always wear chinos/slacks and a collared shirt - usually because I am on my way to/coming home from work. Having said that I don't really have an issue with other travellers wearing whatever they deem comfortable. Personally, I think too many people are worried about what others do/say/think/how they dress. Unless the clothes are so skimpy that you are on the verge of seeing genitalia then why get worked up about something you can't change anyway? Just don't look at them!

I would argue that just because things have been "accepted by society for a long, long time" it doesn't necessarily make them right or trump any other opinions - cf. slavery, racism, homophobia...need I go on. These too were "standards" by which others were judged.

The only things I find offensive when flying are bad manners (ie. not removing headphones whilst being spoken to by an FA), bad personal hygiene (a shower and a spray of deodorant are always a must), bad table manners (the amount of people I've seen licking out meal trays and eating spilled food is astonishing) and...oversized passengers not booking themselves a second seat and intruding on my personal space. I don't have anything against larger people, but when the space I have paid for is reduced then I get annoyed.

Oh...and intolerance...that offends me ;)

I am surprised now in some corporate environments how Jeans and polo shirts are acceptable.

At our corp office in BNE there is a 50/50 mix of jeans/slacks.

It also depends on what is planned for the day.

I agree with you on those "standards" but torn, raggedy clothes are just wrong. Even the less fortunate try and dress better. And thongs (or most open type of footwear) well that is just not an appropriate form of footwear for the majority of places.

The worst part about these inadequate "standards" creeping into society is that an employer cannot judge someone based on what they wear or how they look even if these people were going to be the image of the company. Like hell I would want to hire someone with safety pins, piercings and torn, raggedy clothing regardless of how good they think they are.

I don't have an issue with jeans per se , they have emerged as a serous fashion item over the years and have withstood the ebb and flow of what's in and whats out.
Dirty , torn, or plain weird, wether jeans or some other clothing is IMHO poor form.
Clean, neat and comfortable is my best call.
I don't wear a suit or tie, haven't done for many years now.
I do however wear a jacket and a clean, business like shirt when at work.

As for jeans and polo shirts , I actually get it. Some business's wearing a suit is just not a good look, a more casual uniform and neat approach works, mobile phone shops, and the like come to mind
