Dress Standards and Should P1 get CL access?

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

How ancient are you exactly, dude? I'd seriously prefer it if we all dressed well, but really if you are going to try to call for restrictive areas that you can wear thongs then call for the same on women's open-toed shoes as well.
I am middle aged and someone who believes in a time and a place for everything.

Apologies if I have not got on the band wagon of change for change sake and not accepting everything I am told I should accept....

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

Yep and I've come across 4/4, 5/5, 6/4 days on/off.

Still 8 and 6 is 2 flights per fortnight or 52 a year which is what my calculation was based on.

Again the shorter rosters tend to be for more managment types and there tends to be a whole lot less of them. As per The Rok's post 2 & 1 is the most common (in mining) 3/4 & 1 (mining construction).

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

I've been in mining for nearly 30 years and the worst roster I've done is 16/12. I now do 2wks on/off. There are a huge amount of rosters out there but some people pick and choose. I wouldn't touch 2 on /1 off with a barge pole, much less worse than that. And the worse the roster the bigger the ratbag factor in my experience ( Many sites have "employees" on even time rosters and contractors on some hideous 3/1 or worse ).

All that said, a cough is a cough regardless of what they're wearing. I personally find neck tattoos way more off-putting than thongs, but I'm sure that's just me.

I don't have an issue with jeans per se , they have emerged as a serous fashion item over the years and have withstood the ebb and flow of what's in and whats out.
Dirty , torn, or plain weird, wether jeans or some other clothing is IMHO poor form.
Clean, neat and comfortable is my best call.
I don't wear a suit or tie, haven't done for many years now.
I do however wear a jacket and a clean, business like shirt when at work.

As for jeans and polo shirts , I actually get it. Some business's wearing a suit is just not a good look, a more casual uniform and neat approach works, mobile phone shops, and the like come to mind

+1 and amen to all your comments GPH. We allow our staff free dress Friday and given they are all 40+ in age, don't expect any out of the ordinary from them. Having said that, we had a number of Gen Y staff - two with different attitudes I recall, one was the weird and the other eye-popping for her brazen attitude to showing her wares (both tops and skirts).

We 3 partners coined the term "relaxed professional". Any day we don't have client facing appointments we can wear corporate polo and smart slacks (jeans on Fridays). Those client days are open neck long sleeve business shirts and business pants. The only time I wear ties/suits are my interstate trips to Corporate clients.

Similar standards should apply in QC/JLounge/FLounge, but I'm a product of my parents' upbringing

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

I wouldn't expect lets say... Neil Young (or other entertainment industry people), to show up in the lounge wearing a suit and tie or jeans and a polo, yet his business is no less legitimate than anyone elses and his choice of clothing may be moderately eccentric but that's his business too. (and part of it)

In Bass Strait the norm is 7/7 roster but some do 14/14, a few do 21/21 and some fly in from the US and do 28/28.

The worst I ever heard was one company whose employees in India do one shift pa. 5 month on / 7 months off.

Getting status with an airline does not always mean that you have common sense about dress standards.

I have a client who would be P1 with QF and they have no idea about dress standards.

A mining type guy who work engineering for a manufacturing business who looks at there machines when they are being maintained on a global basis. He is on a 4 weeks on and 2 weeks off roster. 99% of his travel is international. He has no idea about dress standards and would probably get kicked out if there was a dress standard.

Know an ex-navy bloke doing 6 weeks/6 weeks joy sticking an underwater device around rigs in India.

All SQ J for him:mrgreen:

I will only clarify that I'm not quote rosters for management types with those figures.

I suspect that maybe CL sorts the wheat from the chaff in the dress standards area. On my only visit to CL. It was VERY quiet, smart casual or business attire was in the main to be seen. However a young family in holiday mode did come in , but were hardly noticeable.

I would be someone that some here would cringe when they saw me in the lounge!

When travelling for work i'm usually dressed in colourful (at times very) golf attire. :p I certainly don't meet the conservative business attire look, and have often received some strange looks.

Each to their own.

cheers,

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

I think most people agree on at least one thing - whatever the passenger:
* clothing should be clean and not ripped (now I know there is a fashion look sporting the ripped jeans and have you seen those leggings with multi cuts across them?)
* personal hygiene should be adequate (phew)
* the body's more private parts (so to speak) should not be on display
* behaviour should be appropriate - it is not a case of as much alcohol you can drink between flights (though have travelled with colleagues who do exhibit this unfortunate trait at times)
I dress conservatively but accept that others have different ideas about dress. I do remember though as a teenager when I challenged my father with the statement "It is my hair I can wear it as I like", he replied "That may be, but I have to look at you!".

But is it neat and tidy? Colour is good

I like that, relaxed prefessional. The QP needs a spruce up for sure.

Re: Rockpool Bar and Grill Lunch with QFF confirmed attendees

I'm sitting in the haven that is the Emirates Lounge at SIN and everyone is neatly and conservatively attired. Admittedly the number of pax is about 30 so it is a small sample. I daren't go to the QF hell hole. (Although there are reports that it has improved with J, SG, and QP pax being diverted elsewhere.....I'm still not going to chance it though.)

Oh how the poor Emirates pax who use this lounge will see a difference when the hordes of QF WP's storm it after March. (I guess the hope is that the hordes don't realise they can gain access.) I know this sounds terribly elitist and snobby but I have been in this lounge four times in the last three weeks and it is an absolute joy after years of using the QF/BA overcrowded zoos at SIN.

Thank you QF for giving me this, albeit brief, respite.

Yes - neat and tidy.

I should add that it is "the look" of the brand that I represent, so a requirement of my job.

Shh.. Hopefully they won't advertise the desired lounge to the masses.

otherwise WP1 will be wanting their own roped off area to play in exclusively :) Actually looking forward to comparing EK with QF lounge in May.

No trouble from me then as I'm a golfer - I'd probably be jealous you were off to a course and I was off to work.

Sounds like you rival drron - a worthy adversary on the loud golf playing pants. A challenge :D
