Downgraded from business class - AGAIN

When I phoned Qantas tonight in the other issue MrP is experiencing right now the consultant said their systems were down across the board.

And that comment isn't helpful Princess Fiona. I'm surprised actually.

Actually it's a bit more than semantics IMO. Multiple agents at the lounge, check-in and at the call centre are attempting to re-book passengers on a delayed flight to an earlier departure. They admit that they have made a mistake and over-booked the earlier flight, offering the OP the original flight or fly earlier in Y.
As for QF having an interesting night, there seems to be a somewhat dramatic flavour to two instances of IRROPS

If you have a BP for J (versus a booking) and your told you can only take that flight in Y it's a downgrade. It's really got nothing to do with overbooking, it's reallocation then changing the preferences in favour of x versus y which I dare say is what has left the sour taste in the Ops mouth.

Its as simple as someone or a system has decided a passenger with a boarding pass no longer deserves the seat they were promised on the flight they were told they could take.

This. I don't think you would be happy with how things unfolded, including a bus driver sitting in the bus for an hour because he didn't have "authority" (although he had been called there) with passengers waiting to be transited to a Melb City hotel after being unable to travel home that night.

That would make a good ad. Home.

I never said I'd be happy, I haven't read your thread on Mr P, only the initial post. However it seems that we may have an Amadeus outage, coupled with IRROPs. My posts aren't intended to be helpful unless I'm answering travel related questions. They are my opinion based on my own experiences.

Ok. Fair enough to present your opinion based on your experiences.

But maybe you also needed to have read the outcome from the initial post before suggesting the thread was being "dramatic."

I can understand the OPs annoyance. How on earth does QF system allow to many pax to be allocated seats. This is really really basic database transactional management. Either the QF system is an utter and complete joke dating back to the 17th century...or the OP was lied to about the reason.

Daver6: its called overselling. The airline had possibly expected a couple of people not to show up so they proactively moved some passengers ahead. Unfortunately those passengers DID show up and they were (rightly, imo) given their seats, and those who had been moved as a favour from their delayed flight, lost their seats.

Sounds like my experience last thursday night of having a BP for 2D and being handed a BP for 9D when boarding for load and balance reasons on a dash-8 (so not a downgrade as such). Get on board to see someone in 2D. Outright lie from Qantas ground staff. I was extremely annoyed about that and I'd be annoyed about being lied to as per the OP.

Having J boarding passes and then have the airline try to hand you Y boarding passes is an attempted downgrade.

I wasn't suggesting that the thread was dramatic. I was replying to M10's linking of different threads.

hmmm, it's either a downgrade or yet another example of "World-Worst" practice ...

So booking J, flying J is a downgrade?

I am not arguing the fact that the situation was not handled appropriately, but the facts stand that the OP flew in the cabin they booked on the flight they booked.

Have to agree here, the OP flew J on the flight they booked. Unfortunately the attempt at getting the OP away earlier failed in a way that left a very bitter taste. I too would have been frustrated, but at the end of the day it was not a downgrade.

What an absolute load of cough... If QF had called you up and said hey, sorry, but more important pax rocked up after you and requested your seat so we bumped you, the threads on here would be wild with outrageous accusations about how QF doesn't value your money and why is your money not the same as the next guys.

QF are dammed if they do, dammed if they don't...

You missed a flight, get over it... Happens every day.

Downgrade. No doubt about it.

This is starting to become a regular occurrence.

What would you call an op-up at check-in reversed to an economy boarding pass at the gate with a "Take it leave it" to go with it? Yes. A downgrade. It is irrelevant that are you back in your originally booked class.

The same can be said for processed points upgrades to higher cabin. Once that boarding pass is in hand it is a downgrade.

Really disappointing.

But the OP was never downgraded?

it does beggar belief that QF thinks this will wash - have seen threads on here and FT where F redemption tickets facing a downgrade are rebooked on star partner carriers (often into revenue classes) rather than just saying 'tough' we'll keep most of your fare and fly you in Y
