Double SC promo

Status

When Virgin started liberally handing out the status matches i was a little disappointed but consoled myself with a few factors:

1. It was the price of getting the airline competitive and in the long term that would benefit me and allow them to offer better services, product etc when they hit critical mass.
2. I was in a better position to take advantage of the new improvements to the program (such as partner benefits) on account of having many SCs in the bank and already being a loyal flyer.
3. They were getting no more than i was while my benefits were being slightly diluted (such as seating prefs) in the end i was where i always had been in relation to other FF'ers in the program.

Point 1 still remains true but points 2 and 3 turned out to be wrong.

As it transpires my rolling YTD SC's were actually effectively wiped when i hit platinum (i thank VA for comping me Partner Gold when i hit 1500 YTD SCs but the point in general remains). All of us that had in excess of 1000 SCs had them wiped and were forced to start again on Aug 25th - no bonus for past loyalty there.

Now, with this promotion, VA are effectively rewarding those who have received the most status with the least effort while actively choosing to exclude their most loyal customers. I think this is wrong. I can understand there may be commercial reasons for targeting people with comped status/ low SCs for this promotion however this so far this has never balanced out by some promotions or benefits that actually reward their most loyal customers. This promotional actively chooses to reward comped status over long and loyal customers. I think that's problematic and i would be concerned if it part of an ongoing pattern.

I was Platinum or as Liam calls it real Platinum on August 25 and didnt get the offer my balance is currently 420 SC and 1731SC. After next week I will be 540SC and 1851SC. I am going to Email to find out and will keep you posted.

Yes, i'm currently on 580 SCs since Aug 25 and 1999 SCs Rolling. I assume this is a factor in why we're not being targeted, however it would be nice to have our loyalty rewarded by getting something rather than missing out on something wouldn't it?

Don't get upset. QF also do it. As a butt in the seat QF WP, I was never offered the QF double SC promo but did get the VA offer. Will now cost me approx $3.8k to retain VA Platinum (4 x 120 SC PE flights) x 2 = 960 VA SCs. I don't expect to get the offer next year.

If only... I would gladly take advantage of it.

If Red Roo ever reads section this feel free to PM me about my status match :)

Why? The VA Platinum program and benefits are well above what QF offers. The recent WP1 non launch was a joke. I can not believe someone in QF thinks a WP1 would rip off anytime lounge access. Sorry but QF is about as out of touch with their working WPs as they can be. I was very happy to see I had made the right decision to move as much of my flying as I can away from QF and to VA.

From my reading of the people who have replied, there are Golds and Plats, both BIS and recently matched. I am sure Phil and the marketing team at VA/VFF know the data behind who has been offered.

It is also likely that with the inconsistency of the email, that it was pulled last night (on the assumption they hadn't sent then all out in one batch). We await their clarification on the inconsistency though...

777, you were mentioned in our chat with VFF yesterday. I don't think you can cross off point 2 yet, there are still benefits that they are working on that have yet to be released.

That would be the best case scenario. However it does appear to be targeting those with low SC earns and the wording seems to imply that it is going to the recently matched. We will see i guess.

It definitely seems that this is targeted at people who have recently gone up a status and have earned less than a certain number of SCs in the first couple of months.

I don't mind too much as it's not a problem for me to requalify - I'll hit partner gold in just under 3 weeks time, and will have at least 595 SCs towards requalification by the end of November with 9 months left to get the remaining 205. With the offer, it might have helped me to get Partner Platinum, but without it I'm not sure if I'll get there.

Of course there is another thought here........

It may be a purely random offer to higher status members! No targeting, no behind the scenes meddling, no ulterior motives.........;)

(but it is disappointing. I'm struggling to get anywhere near plat at the moment and would have really appreciated the helping boost :()

I am not accusing them of having ulterior motives but it does appear to be targeted. The logic seems to be that they are targeting high status pax with low numbers of SC's and trying to get them to 1. try the product (in the case of status matches) and/or 2. Invest in some SC's during what is apparently a slow period so that they are more likely to continue to fly with VA later in the year and maintain their status. Seems like a very sensible marketing approach to me. However i would argue that showing some love to your most loyal customers is also good marketing. :)

Actually you won't hit partner gold in 3 weeks time unless you've earned 1500 SCs since August. See my point 2 above (your SC's were effectively wiped when you hit platinum) and the entire thread i started when i (and the Virgin customer service rep i spoke to) made that mistake back in August. That's what I mean about providing no recognition of prior loyalty.

Re: Double Status Credits offer

Interesting, my dates are different:

As a new Platinum member, we hope to see you soon experiencing your new Platinum benefits.

To get you started, we are pleased to offer you double Status Credits* on all flights you book with the Virgin Australia group of airlines^ between 14 and 30 October 2011 for travel between 15 October and 31 December 2011.

I got these dates too.

I'm currently sitting at 465/50 SCs (since August 10) so It'd be hard to imagine any gold being "worse" than me at the moment so I'd don't neccessarily agree with your targeted concept......but I did turn gold just prior to the plat launch/status matching, so that part of your suspicion does gell. I do have some flights to make before year end, so it would have helped me a lot (even if just in requal.).

It does appear that everyone targeted hit gold/ plat on or after the program was relaunched - anyone get anything different?

I've earned 150 Velocity SC's through flying and then got matched to a Silver a couple of days ago. Even as a Silver I received the double offer:

"As a new Silver member, we hope to see you soon experiencing your new Silver benefits.

To get you started, we are pleased to offer you double Status Credits* on all flights you book with the Virgin Australia group of airlines^ between 14 and 30 October 2011 for travel between 15 October and 31 December 2011."

and in the TCs:
"Double Status Credits are able to be earned on all Virgin Australia group of airline flights booked between 14 and 24 October 2011 provided flight is taken between 15 October and 18 November 2011."

I hadn't seen that thread somehow and didn't realise this. I'm a little annoyed now - I have earned 1407 SC in the last 12months, 360 of those so far this year. To get Partner Gold I have to get 1140 more before next Sept - effectively a total of 2500 (1000 to get Plat and 1500 then from that date to retain plus get partner gold). Yet someone else can come along and get a status match with no flying and only have to get 1500 to get partner gold!

I don't mind status matches - heck I got one last year to gold. However I still did BIS flying after that and now have platinum yet none of that counts towards partner gold!

Rant over, back on topic!

Those double SCs suddenly seem a lot more useful now don't they? I know i'm going to requal for Platinum in a canter but the double SCs sure would help towards the high bar of PG or PP.

I didn't get the double status credit offer, I was recently made Gold through accelerate and not status matched.

Has anyone who was not status matched received the offer?

I am flying DJ tomorrow and Friday and would pay for J upgrade ($140) for double SC's which would be $2.35 per SC, win!
