Double SC Promo [December 2010]

Well if you pay the $25 to hold the seat a payment has technically been made. :p

I hope you are right as I am in the process of booking 1 flight to CDG, 2 flights to HKG and 2 flights to AKL. As I do not know the exact date or whether I will be going, I have to book the more expensive fares for flexibility to change. If I can just book & hold it would be a lot cheaper for me.

The same thing happened to me, which concerns me as I had already registered through the original email, should I be concerned it didnt work the first time?

I'm in the same boat. I clicked register again and I got an email that I don't recall receiving the first time. I'm glad I did, otherwise I would have missed out on 240 SCs!

ok - I rang QF, and they said at this time it wasnt possible to see if registration had worked for this promotion on my account.

Im worried if I click the link now, that it will invalidate my flights I have booked, from when I first registered when I got the original email....not sure what I should do, pretty sure i never got an email confirming that I was successful but remember it said I was registered on the screen when i first followed the link (never took a screen shot though)

I've just booked 2 trips to the US - 1 in Feb and 1 in march, which I was going to do anyway. I've kept copies of all the emails and responses just in case the double points do not come through.

When I tried to do the survey the second time (to get dble SCs as opposed to 50% SCs) that came with the original email, a note popped up saying I had already done the survey so I'm not too worried as I have the original email, and I'm confident that QF will do a manual adjustment if for some reason i don't get the dble SCs.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

While I received the first email (and a follow up a couple of days ago), I won't be taking up the offer. I have enough travel booked to become Gold by May next year, so any further SC's would just be wasted.

They won't be wasted if you are shooting for lifetime status? :)

Similarly, I did the survey a second time and it said I was already registered for the double.

Just booked Business (C)

MEL-HKG-TPE-HKG-MEL which will pick up extra SC's.;)

On a QF code-share? Sounds to me like that is on CX? MEL-HKG vv on QF, but the HKG-TPE-HKG sounds like CX, which won't earn double SC's?

OT:
Now, call me paranoid, conspiratorial, overly suspicious, mad...
The more l think about this double promo and try to put the pieces together, the more intrigued l get. I got a "Double SC Promo" earlier this year and got one last month too. Seems kind of odd that l get 2 in the same year? (they are in different "years" though)

So far, we all know that DJ is unveiling a new product next year and l have asked myself if QF might be targeting certain people for the double SC promo, so that they are loyal to QF (aka, trying to lock them in), so that when DJ comes out with their new revamped product (and l suspect new Velocity program too), they might not defect? Has anyone here got the promo, that is a bronze (ie, not a very frequent flyer)? I have been a silver previously for many years, but still considered myself a frequent flyer, more frequent than "some" WP's (those that fly twice a year to LHR on F), l was on Red eDeals getting measly SC's, 500SC's in discount Y is still a lot of flying in my books.

Maybe QF have a mole working at DJ headquarters that is giving them a heads up on DJ developments? (It wouldn't surprise me; 1)Industrial/business espionage is huge these days, anything to get a slight advantage over a competitor is worth big $$$ 2)They got done for cargo fixing, anything is possible with QF now days)

I would have thought that if Qantas were going to respond to the changes at DJ, then the double SC promotion would target domestic travel. I think this promotion is motivated by something else - any response to DJ will come in due course.

I agree.

I think the response at this point will be minimal until they actually know what they have to respond to. Then it will get interesting.

If so, it is poorly targeted at international travel in my case. My recent flying pattern is pretty clear. I have many SC from many domestic flights and one international trip. I current have regular domestic bookings out to March with some gaps to May and one international booking. It is extremely poor targeting if they think I have the capability to book another international trip in the time frame given especially has I already have my one international flight locked in.

Further poor targeting if I look at the reason given in my email - "to help me get to PG". Problem is that PG qualification goes up at the end of March and my year ends in September. So even if I could do the flights I would basically have to get 700SC x2 from this promo to make PG (factoring in my current bookings). I have 3 weeks between christmas and 17 Jan to do that, before I have to go back to work. So basically if I crazy enough to go for it, then I probably need to spend up on expensive fares. That isn't me and the should have enough data in their system to know so.

Perhaps to target the Etihad tie up? Certainly for me that tie up is much more attractive for getting to europe.

I thought from the start the promo is because:

1. A380 problems and bad PR means fwd intl bookings are down. These are important for cash flow as they get your money immediately, before you cost them anything. Also Jan-Feb generally means little business traffic, mostly leisure traffic, which is lower margin (no flex fares) and which is prob more influenced/scared by the bad press.

2. FF are knowledgeable and will be not be scared of flying, so easy to entice them to spend a bit more on flights they don't really need or were half thinking of, without having to have a sale that affects margins.

ie: it's a low cost way to get more bums on seats at a quiet time.

So a friend and I have done the homework and have decided a NAN status run will get the go ahead with a week stay just to enjoy Fiji.

We're looking in March however I'm trying to figure out the best time to head off, we've put in dates 6th to the 12th as a rough guide however would it be better to go later?
I went in April this year right after Easter and the weather seemed perfect! Hoping March will be the same.

You may have a little more home work yet to do. If you wish to take advantage of the subject of this thread you must, assuming that you have received an offer:

  • Register [below] before 21 December 2010
  • Book and pay for any Qantas International flight with a QF flight number between 1 and 21 December 2010
  • Complete your travel between 1 January and 31 March 2011
Of course, if no offer ... just enjoy your deliberations! ;)

Could someone please tell me if the cutoff time for booking this was midnight last night or midnight tonight the 21st.

It reads must be booked and paid for by the 21st.

Thankyou.

I would assume it is the end of the 21st but if you really need to know then you should ask Qantas.
