I suggest you try for something else. In my opinion, 2E and 2F are the least desirable of a good set of seats. The aisle is narrowest at row 2, and access to the overhead locker above 2A requires standing in the seat space of 2E. And since there is no overhead locker at 1A, you will find that people from both 1A and 2A will be wanting to stand on you lap to access this overhead locker.

They generally don't pre-allocate 4A/K since they are the bassinet positions, so ask about them specifically.

But there is no bad seat in F, just some are more desirable than others .

Just rang Qantas. There is only 2 seats available. 2E (Me now) and 2F.

I stayed with 2E.

Hmmm, ExpertFlyer is showing 4F available, I wonder why I was not offered it. Is that a better seat?

I would take 4F over 2E for sure. You can also ask again at check-in and again at the lounge and they will generally try to accommodate your request if they can.

Just rang them again. They say 4F is taken. Oh well. Will see what happens when I check in.

Wow! There is no such thing as a bad first class seat.

2E is a lot better than 23E and most certainly much better than 62E. :-|

Even better I got an op up on one of my other flights (no sky suite though).

I was very careful with my choice of words when I described 2E as "the least desirable of a good set of seats".

And also note that I would happily take 2E rather than anything with a row number greater than 5, and certainly better than seat 96P on an EK high density A380 .

Sorry I was not winging. Your advice is invaluable. But...

First class is first class! Who cares what number/letter the seat it is! When you are sitting/sleeping in it just think of the poor cough slumming it at the back with the person in front reclining in his lap. No need to have a discussion devoted to what is a suitable first class seat and whether my 2E allocation is good enough or should I have it changed.

When you have 96P allocated in a high denisty economy layout 12 across is a very good time to ask for advice.

For first and business class take what you get, especialy when there are only 1 or 2 seats left, and learn to be humble.

I do not subscribe to your theory. I have spent enough time in 96P with the pax in 95P reclined. As such, when I am privileged enough to be sitting in front of of the unwashed masses, I want to maximise the experience.

I don't want to be woken from my slumber on 2E by the passenger in 2A when they need to stand on top of me to access their carry-on bags in the overhead locker. So no matter in which cabin I find myself travelling, I will always try to secure the best seat available to me at the time. If that means trying to improve 96P to the fifth ext row at 88Q then I will request it, just as I will try to locate a more desirable seat in rows 1-4 if I am given the opportunity.

This is one of the reasons I spend time at sites like this - to help me learn from others how I can maximise my travel experience.

Sorry NM it was not a theory just a whole lot of waffle. You have/will spend more time on a plane than I will in a lifetime. I was not questioning this fact. You know more than I ever will. I was not questioning this fact.

There were 2 first class seats available, after a lucky upgrade, 2E or 2F. Just take one and be happy with it. Just like the other thread where 23E was the only business class seat available. It is a lot better than any cattle class seat.

Different story when you are the first to choose first class seat or business class seat in a cabin. Take what you feel is best.

Personally, I would not just settle for 23E in business class either. Take it for now and try every day (even looking multiple times a day) to change it. Then again at check-in, then again at the lounge, then again at the gate, and again on board (just in case there is a last minute no-show or op-up that frees up a better seat). I would not roll over and accept defeat .

If I have to fly, then I want to do it in the most comfortable manner. And seat selection is key to achieving this for me.

Oh well, QF9 departed SIN over 11 hours ago (albeit 30 minutes late) so the point is moot.

I see from other posts that v8Statesman is a newly badged QF PS. Just conjecture, but the seat was probaly unallocated and Qantas call staff were advising the seat was "taken" when in fact, it was merely "blocked". If so, I'm sure he would have been successful at the airport.
