It may well work out cheaper to remove existing flights (eg intra-europe), replacing them with separate ticket, and upgrade your DONE4 to DONE5. I imagine Angola may be expensive to get to/from europe.

Thanks for the idea, I am heading to my travel agent now, so I will go through it with him.

On an OW ATW ticket, a stopover occurs if you exceed 24 hours regardless of whether it is domestic or international

Dave

I think this was in relation to LON departure taxes not OW ticketing options. Is there a difference?

Yes and no!

If you leave LON internationally within 24H of arrival, you do not need to pay the £40/£10.

Ahhh... indeed. Th exemptions to the GB tax are

- Transit passengers transferring to an international flight within 24 hours.
- Transit passengers transferring between flights when the connecting time to a UK domestic flight does not exceed 6 hours or when a flight arrives at or after 1700 one day and a connecting UK domestic flight departs by 1000 the following morning.
- Transit passengers who do not deplane.
- Visiting Forces Military Personnel and NATO Military Headquarters and Agencies Staff travelling for official purposes.
- Passengers travelling on pleasure flights that leave from and return to the same airport, do not put down anywhere else and do not exceed one hour.

(If connecting to a UK domestic flight but exceed the exemption rules, the tax is only GBP5.)

Yes indeed. I was referring to the tax rules, not the fare rules. Two different things.

New Problem (sigh)

I have booked it as described in a previous post, however I am waitlisted on 3 flights :( (see below) I spoke to a rather unhelpful QF rep (this maybe because it is booked via AA I am not sure) they just rambled on about World Cup blah blah, lots of demand blah blah, not likely to catch flight blah blah.

Ok While Writintg this I found my 3rd light had D9 (see below) I rang BA (as it was a BA flight) they were no help. I rang AA and although I generally hate US Customer Service this was not to bad (Still really bad on my Normal scale), she confirmed my BA flight. I can not see it on https://www.viewtrip.com yet, but I guess it can take time. I am going to cal AA in the States again in a few hours to make sure :)

Not great. I am waitlisted on flight to europe around same date, and have been for quite some time. Fortunately I have guaranteed seat in lower cabin to fall back on (thanks to status).

There's the usual advice to try other flights and other days even if it means long transits. Otherwise you could go for a downgraded cabin (economy looks full so this may be a risky strategy).

Oh dear. I thought my chances would be good given that both flights are showing J9 C9

Make sure you have some alternate plans. They may not issue the ticket unless you have a confirmed flight option. You could choose to confirm in L and waitlist D, but I would be looking for a confirmed D all the way, either on different days, different flights, or different route.

I spoke to QF today. There are other options on the same day (BA Code share) that will get me there. I want QF 5 & 9 as I want a shot at the free A class seats.

If you have met me, you would understand putting this carcass why L is not an option for me on a 10+ hr flight. (Ask Lindsay Wilson (Hi Lindsay!!))

Book it on the BA flight or codeshare; if the desired flight becomes available then just contact AA and change flight numbers; no ticket reissue or fee will apply

Thankyou everyone for the help on this. I got my paper ticket today. Has been a while since I have used a paper ticket:!:

20 sectors Silver - Plantinum here I come!

Does anyone know the advantage (if any) of filling out Advance Passenger Information on www.ba.com:?:

Saves you time and mucking around during checkin... That is assuming you are going to a country that cares about API.

Why a paper ticket? I thought you only had QF, AA, BA, CX flights which should all be e-ticket eligible. Did they have a problem with being greater than 16 sectors? I thought that limitation had been overcome.

Which airline issued the ticket? You can tell from the first three digits of the ticket number, with 001 being AA and 081 being QF.

I was told it was because I had more than 16 sectors.

I don' have the tickets with me but up on the top left of the ticket I know it said American Airlines.

I know these used to be a 16-sector limit for e-ticket issues with some res systems, and I think AA is one of them. Looks like its still a limitation. My current DONE4 was booked in Sabre and issued on QF stock, but is 15 sectors so no problem with the 16 limit.

I have the tickets with me now. Down the bottom in the middle it has "Airline Code 001"

That would make it an AA ticket, which implies they still have a 15-sector limit in their system.
