Hi,
I'm taking my first flight as a SG on Monday: QF 1011, MEL-HBA. I know for such a short flight it's a huge waste to spend points on an upgrade, but I feel like splurging.
On to my questions. I'm travelling with my housemate, and I'd want to upgrade him as well. He's not a QFF member, but we're travelling on the same booking. According to QF, I can only upgrade eligible family members, so I'd have to claim him as my domestic partner. While our (non-)relationship is possibly not what Qantas had in mind when they were specifying what a domestic partner is, we have been sharing a house for years. Does Qantas just accept your word when you claim domestic partnership status for upgrade purposes? We could show proof that we live at the same address, but that's all.
The next question I have is on the relative merits of requesting an upgrade in advance over doing an ODU in the QP. Are there reasons to do one rather than the other?
Finally, what do you think the chances are of getting the upgrades? ExpertFlyer is currently showing (for me) 1C as occupied, the rest of row 1 as blocked, and 2AB blocked as well, leaving 6 seats free. Do they allow upgrades until the cabin is full, or only up to some set quota?
Thanks.
