Good point - if I turned up in SYD at 9AM for most of my flights ex-SYD I would have missed the flight by two hours - I was thinking that given the OP was asking about lunch options...

The Dining options in the BNE, DOM J lounge are not as good as the J Lounge in Sydney, I wasnt overwhelmed about the MEL lounge (actually had a similar experience to munitalp with dirty tables etc in MEL)
a nice diding experience in BNE (J) would be enough to lift it I feel...

Yes, the view from the CBR DJ lounge is nicer, but in every other way, the QF J lounge is better - particularly for food and drink. If you're flying at peak time tonight another bonus to the QF lounge is you will get a seat.

Food - Soup soup soup and soup!
The lounge itself feels old and cough

Great choice of wines, spirits and food
Beautiful decor, new, fresh and clean
3 great showers always clean and heaps of hot water and not bad water pressure

However the DJ lounge only has a few months left before the new one opens, so have to wait and see what the new lounge offers and IF it has a J lounge in addition to the standard lounge.

Thanks but not really any point as the lounge is only going to be around for a few more months, however the lack of food is probably limited by space constraints although other lounges don't really have much more either, except for the the mexican beans or the chicken and rice!

I have noticed lately in SYD and MEL Dom J lounge, they are serving bbq pork buns in the afternoons - however, am I the only one thinking they are ruining them by cooking them the wrong way?
I have only ever seen and enjoyed these buns steamed/microwaved in restaurants/friends houses.
However the J lounge always seems to oven bake them till they are dark brown and rock hard/dry.

Hate to sound like the old fogie I am, but when I travelled very frequently on business in the 1990s, I was addicted to the QC cheese offering, especially at Melbourne - often, returning from elsewhere to Adelaide, I'd choose flights which went via Melbourne just for the cheese - contrast that to the pathetic slices of manufactured chess now available (sometimes). Still, my cholesterol reading is somewhat better.

I agree about the cheese situation. THe restriction of time for asking for a cheese plate in the Melbourne J lounge to the afternoon is quite strange - it's nice to have a cheese plate before a late departing flight with a nice red. The quality of the cheese plate has also gone down. Even in the Flounge two weeks ago I was surprised at the poor selection of cheeses. All soft cheeses and nothing sharp tasting.

Loved the choc raspberry brownie and rich meat gravy with side pastry triangles in Mel J lounge the other week. Best food ever I have tasted in a lounge. So I had 2 servings and managed to stuff in the lasagna served onboard. When it's that good you live like there's no tomorrow. I had a brief conversation with an off duty Q pilot seated next to me and treated that as another pleasant surprise.

I was wondering about the fries in the lounge when I was there the other day - I thought it was a one off tip-of-the-hat to comfort food, but am glad that they are changing around there menus. The fries seemed very popular based on how fast they disappeared from the tray.....

Carved leg ham in small sweet buns served in a cardboard boat in the BNE business lounge yesterday. Trying to get extra ham was frowned upon.

Orange coloured cold pototato fries in Qantas lounge next door. Ran out of time and only had a quick taste.

Last few times I've been in the Qantas lounge (generally passing through on weekends) I've noticed that the menu offerings have been nothing special (i.e. the usual cold cuts, salads, and breads with the sandwich press). I can seem to predict when I will stumble on their "enhanced" menu - maybe mid-day weekdays?
