Does my itinerary really only require ONE PCR test?

Hi all long time lurker 2nd time poster.

Booked SYD - MLE via SIN (VTL flight 3hr layover) on SQ for mid-April.
We'll then be flying from SIN - CMB on EK, spending some time there, then returning home to SYD via SIN on SQ (VTL flight 2.5 hr layover).
Transit in SIN doesn't require a negative PCR test
Noticed today Maldives have removed requirement for negative PCR test for fully vaxxed
Sri Lanka doesn't require negative PCR test either...

Do the actual AIRLINES require negative PCR tests?
If not, does that mean I can do this whole holiday with only having to do a PCR test once so I can come back to SYD?
Or do some of these countries require tests to depart? (from what I've read none do, Maldives USED to require it)

Let me know if my logic/understanding above is flawed/incorrect.
TIA for responses!

Smart traveller and Emirates (I realise you are flying with SQ) both indicate you need a pre-departure PCR within 96 hours of departure for your flight to Maldives

It also seems to indicate the same on a Maldives government website

Before your Departure to Maldives
  • It is mandatory for ALL tourists to undergo a NUCLEIC PCR TEST RESULT 96 hours prior to their scheduled departure from their first point of embarkation en route to the Maldives.

Haven't looked further into your itinerary......

Oh that's odd, according to this I don't need one to enter the Maldives...

The requirement has changed quite recently (and not in effect yet). As with everything Covid is its a moving target.

So once that requirement is in effect... I won't need a PCR test until I want to come back to AUS?
Do Airlines themselves want a neg pcr test to get on their aircraft?
