Now that's something to be proud of. I weigh less than during Uni (I blame the cheap food they serve in colleges/dorms) but staying down takes a *lot* of work. Well done Fiona! (and I do mean that with all sincerity.)

As a side note, what do people do for gyms while they're away. I'm with Anytime Fitness which has the benefit of having some North America locations, but no where near as many as I expected (or would like).

I run, so keeping fitness up on trips is easy. If it's a city that's easy/safe to run in, I just head out the hotel door in the morning. If it's not, the hotel will always have a treadmill in the gym.

I actually can't remember the last time I stayed at a hotel without a gym to be honest.

This is what I do - especially in the US, small plate of fruit for breakfast and then either lunch or dinner (but not both). Really this is just to counter the lack of exercise when I'm away

Your metabolism is not slowed down by not eating breakfast that is a giant food myth. Intermittent fasting is a great way to control your weight. You would need to have low cal for a long time to affect your metabolism.

Argh... this thread worries me! I'm quickly progressing NR-PS-SG-WP and seeing the waist expand at the same time. Perhaps less flying and more treadmill required

No ... same flying - but MORE MORE treadmill (or other things like walking a Golf course chassing a recalcitrant ball).

Or flying with the gym in transit

It was obviously queued out the door when I was there last year ;)

When I've been on the travel treadmill for a while I used to feel myself getting unhealthier by the day. I stopped eating the hotel buffet breakfast which always seemed to encourage me to eat more than I should. I only eat a bowl of cereal at home so why was I eating cereal, a fry up and some bakery treats when away?

Now I tend to go to a cafe (if I have time) and just order a plate of something.

I also got into early morning walks many years ago and have explored many cities in the dark - Perth in the summer time especially! Wake up at 4am at the latest so there's a lot of hours before breakfast! Use them.

I always take my running gear with me. There is always a decent gym in the hotels I stay in, but in some places, running outdoors (often in running tights and a long sleeve top) is way more enjoyable, simply due to the location. My top 3 outdoor running cities are:

- Washington DC (run in front on the white house and then down to the national mall - perfect in spring or autumn, but not so good in winter or summer)

- London - seasonal as well, but it's always amazing running through hyde park and down to the palace

- New York - there's just something special about running in central park.

Perhaps it is your username that is adding to the weight issue! :D

Every trip I take, I have my gym gear packed. That's got to count for something, right? The fact that this particular set of gym gear has never been used is in no way relevant to the discussion.
