I need to book a flight between San Fransicso and Seattle. I have looked at the Alaska Airlines website and under the Alaskan Mileage Plan Airline Partner schedule it indicates that, "Earn and redeem Mileage Plan Miles on Alaska Airlines or any of our 13 airline partners. To receive mileage credit, provide your Mileage Plan number when making reservations". It then goes on to say that you can earn Alaska FF points by flying Qantas.

However, when I look at the Qantas website there is no mention of Alaska Airline being a Qantas Airline Partner or a One World Alliance Airline. So, have I missed something and I can earn QF FF points by flying Alaska Airlines, am I correct in not earning points with Alaska. I am aware I can fly AA and earn points, but after Seattle I need a connect flight to Yakima which is Alaska/Horizon so may as well fly one airline only, if possible, and have bags checked through etc. Any assitance would be greatful.

It's not in the points earning table in the T & C, so I think that's the final answer....

Have no personal experience about flying them though, so cannot give a definitive answer.

Maca44, I travel with AS a bit in USA as I often fly through SEA and GEG (Spokane, east of Seattle). Great airline and staff. Whilst they used to have a tie-up with QF, they don't any more. You can confirm this by the fact that they don't show up in the QFF Airline Earning Chart

You have a number of options:

1. See if there is an AA codeshare flight number (there is probably only on the SFO/SEA sector, as the next one is with Horizon, which I don't think has AA codeshare avaliability). As you can't do through the Alaskan website, ring AA Res on 1300 650 747. Then check to see if the class is a valid AA earning one under your QFF account. You want it to be in at least G, L, M, N, S or V class (for half mileage and full SC's).

2. Alternatively, if it's an AA codeshare flight where the class is non-earning under QFF, or you can only get the AS flight number, then credit it to an AAdvantage account.

3. Credit it to a Alaskan Airlines MVP account (better choice) or an Northwest WorldPerks account (not as good a choice, given Northwest's Chapter 11 woes).

In fact, I'm doing this same sector on 4 January 2006 (dep SFO 7.06pm) and was able to get the AA codeshare (AA6861) and credit to my AA account (as it's W class, non-earning under my QFF account).

Thanks oz_mark, Mal and Lindsay for your reply.

I notice on the AA site that the majority of AA flights to Seattle out of Los Angeles are operated by Alaskan Air, and when I do further searches I found that Qantas have connecting flights out of LAX with a QF flight number, even though operated by AA which I would then assume might be operated by Alaska.

My situation is I am using an award flight in J class from Sydney to San Francisco mid 2006, so hopefully they will publish connecting flights out of SFO with a QF flight number which would solve my problem.

Lindsay, if you know the area I am only going to Ellensburg which is about 90 mins drive from SEA, and I bought a small car 18 mths ago which is at a friend's place there, so instead of flying to Yakima I could take the shuttle from SEA to Ellensburg and pick up the car. This trip is for pleasure as I went to the Ellensburg Rodeo in 2001 and although I am definitely not a cowboy by any sense of the word it is the most fun I have had with my clothes on, a party that goes for five days.

Maca44, getting either the QF or AA codeshare SFO/SEA would be better, IMO (so you don't have to add via LAX). That way you'll get SC's and points (just make sure it's an earning class if you choose the AA codeshare). Not sure whether it's an AA or AS metal, but looking at the schedules on the AA website will tell you. Second option would be to go SYD/SFO/YVR/SEA with the first two on QF and probably codeshare down to SEA. But the best schedule will win.

I've heard of Ellensburg, but I only use SEA as a hub to fly to GEG (where my favourite USA relatives live). Get my first chance to actually stay in SEA on this next trip. I'm a Seattle Seahawks fan though.
