Do you earn points or Stataus Credits on QF Classic Award Bookings??
(I appreciate some of my posts have been relatively 'simple'. I appreciate the help and responsive answers provided thus far by the AFF community.
Much appreciated!!

AFAIK no they don't this what makes Any Seat Awards so attractive.

Short answer: No.

Virgin are offering SC's for award flights thru end of June this year as a special deal, but usually it's a no for them too.

Specifically the JASA & FASA. YASA is not such good value.

Being a fellow noob the only reason I would use classic is for a round the world (RTW) trip they seem to be good value there.
I'm prepared to be corrected by FF's who are a lot more knowledgeable :)

The OW 'RTW' fares are probably one of the best uses of points for sure.

I keep saving my miles for this, and then something happens causing me to cash in a chunk of points (was up to almost 300k and ready to start planning a RTW in J for the 240k award, got very sick and burned a large chunk of points on a flight to get home in J from the other side of the world).

Upgrades are also another good use of points, but of course if you're not WP or SG, your chances in the QF lottery can be severely hampered :S

... especially if you can get the JASA/FASA at or near Classic Award prices... and there's a thread for that

Yes Paddy that is the important point I left out "at near classic award prices".

I just booked flights for my family SYD - HKG - SYD 2 adults & 1 infant for 240,000 points and $1581 including the credit card fees.
To me that is an absolute bargain especially as the flight there is in December when it's so close to peak season. Even with the current QF sale this would have cost me $8137 let alone the normal Business class saver price of around approx $12,000.

If I can work out experflyer I will be seeing if I can change the tickets to F if some F award seats do become available on my flight.

First time in the A380, 2nd time flying J class. I'm very much looking forward to it and finally a good use for all the points I have been accumulating for over 10 years.

The benefit of classic awards is that it is possible to get them (if you have status) when there aren't any available.

Drewbles, my wife was pregnant at the time and I used my points in the upgrade lottery from Discount Y to J, very lucky to get an upgrade on both flights so we were very happy.
I'm wishing that QF will once again allow upgrades from discount Y for a trip to SIN in a few months *crossing fingers*.
