Do we still get frequent flyer points?

I nearly fell off my chair reading the article on SMH this morning.

Fancy asking for FF points after being saved from a war zone.

Well the answer is no as charted flights do not accure FF points...
It does seem a little bit of a strange question to ask when being evacuated from a dangerous situation...

I thought it was hilarious.

Seems a very 'Australian' thing to do. Whatever that is..

does seem 'Australian' to ask, i would hope it was done with the expected smirk and laughter afterwards though.

I wonder who got to sit in First/Business ?

I guess the WPs must have had priority boarding otherwise we'd never have heard the end of it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Hmm - whilst I do agree with some of the sentiment regarding "wow they asked for points????" isn't part of what we do here looking at every part of our travel and lifestyle and working out ways in which we can earn points - so is it not unreasonable to ask every time you get on a flight "do I get points with this?"

People come on here and complain that they don't get points on classic award flights...

Also on the WP thing - would you really know that you are on a charter flight rather than a QF flight when you saw the QF logo on the tail and QF uniforms on board?

These weren't Huey's ferrying people off the top of the US embassy in Vietnam...

Well, if you didn't buy a ticket and you were being evacuated you might think it wasn't a normal flight. :) Good on the Australian Govt for using an Australian airline, next time perhaps they'd (us the tax payer) get a better deal hiring from say Ethiopian.

Wondered if they asked for a complimentary drink as well.

Really? I think every person on that flight would have been well aware that it was an evacuation flight.

It's got me thinking now. If it was a QF aircraft I presume it would have, at the very least, a J section. I would hope that WP's got first dibs on the J seats.......and also status bonus on the FF points. :p

I must admit I did ask about QF points when DJ cancelled a flight of mine some years ago and we were transferred to QF.

They laughed at me :!:  :(

What they really should have done is to keep the boarding pass, and try to claim the points later, rather than just asking on the spot

Then again, it wasn't that many miles, maybe someone is just short of SCs to make Platinum:
