Do single men in their 30's really get the most upgrades?

Personally I would also like to complain about the total lack of upgrades I received in the 1930's. If something is not done by the 2030's I will seriously consider switching carriers.

I suppose so, the article wasn't explicit about men in their 130's either.

A few upgrades for me. Female and in my 30's. lol
were they done by the FAs? I too have had plenty of upgrades over the years, but never has it been decided by a FA. It's always been at check in or at the
gate when my BP goes beep. Either way the FA didn't do it. The article seems to be based on the idea that FAs are the ones that decide who gets the upgrade.

I've discovered my problem.

Im only 28...

And if you are still single but don't wish to be, you have only 2 years to do so before you'll need to "drop back" to your current status (sounds a lot like how status credits work?) for the upgrades to happen...

Yeah whatever...........

Totally useless article written by a wannabe travel writer with no clue and nothing else to write about.

Time to move on.

To add another data point, I got more op-ups as an SG in my 20s than I have as a WP in my late 20s and 30s. More to do with a change in the way QF does upgrades methinks. I don't take it personally, and only fly international J or above. Domestic J is a waste of money or points unless doing coast to coast.

I get back at them through multiple JASA/FASA's each year ;)

The article was originally from the UK, so I suspect it was based on responses from FA's from Europe and/or the USA.
Considering how tight QF is with upgrades, I am not surprised by some of the responses of "Men of a certain age" in this thread! ;)

Love these comments...

guess what, he/she is not a wannabe. He is a published journalist which is probably quite an achievement whatever you might say.

Guess what?

Natalie is actually a SHE who used write allegedly "quality" articles for the newsroom of The Telegraph in London and then decided to throw that in to write even lighter weight forget after scanning through the dross travel articles that I forget within 3 seconds.

I have no comment on her earlier articles because I choose not to read that type of newspaper.

Apply the old adage here: You are only as good as your last {insert appropriate example here}

And for the record, the article is an ill informed beat up that bears no relevance to reality and gives the unwashed masses expectations of grandeur that will be very very rarely to lived up to.

Given there are no educational requirements or standards to call yourself a journalist then it isn't really an achievement. And this article isn't journalism. It is space filling sensationalist cough that is blatantly wrong.

Especially for the trashy tabloids.. It appears..At least for a limited demographic. :-/

Actually, there are numerous bachelors and diplomas out there that can be acquired to claim one as a journalist. Some of these university degrees concentrate on quality of investigation of your topic and then honest and balanced reporting/writing of said topic (ref: Malcolm Caldwell, his published writings and his New Yorker Magazine articles).

Others just focus on the sensational cough that will get you a job because you managed to help someone sell some readership/viewership.

For me, I read articles written by REAL journalists who actually want to understand the theme they are writing about.

I would love to read a long article from a real writer/journalist about flying and the travel industry in general rather that this type of dross.

Isn't/wasn't? Bob Carr a journalist of some description?

Yes Bob was a journalist before politics.

Sydney Uni and a journo for SMH I think, unless someone would like to correct me...

Yet lost any scrap of credibility she may have once had.

This must be from the same no news school of journalism that Australian Business Traveller "journo's" went to.

lot of hate going on around here, they are out there making a go of it... if you think you can do better you should go create your own site.

One is a travel blog which "is Australia’s only Web site dedicated to business travel and the 2.6 million Australians who fly interstate or internationally for business each year."

They can write what they want, how they want, as they are basically a travel blog!

The other is a newspaper.......
