Interesting article about upgrades. I wonder if this rings true for AFF's?

A poll of airline staff has suggested that single men in their thirties have the best chance of getting a free upgrade on a flight.
According to the profile created by compiling the preferences of more than 700 flight attendants, the lucky man is also likely to be smartly dressed – a handy hint for any hoping to blag themselves a roomier seat.

It hasn't happened to me... yet! Based on the odds, it should be coming soon!

If anyone actually bothers to read through the buffalo poo, it's basically confirming that a (typically male) frequent flyer travelling alone is more likely to receive an upgrade than a family on a once a year holiday.

I wish I got paid for this type of in depth analysis.

Heard a rumor... Also, if you wear a business suits and tidy, they will let you to upgrade for free...

Really was a cough article - I thought the premice that the FAs actually grant the upgrades and therefore thats who they should waste time polling was a bit of a laugh. I've had a few op-ups in my time (and one op-down:shock:) and it has never been done on the plane or by one of the FAs.

Absolute tosh. I've flown enough domestic QF sectors to achieve and maintain WP in the last 18 months and not once ever in the ever have I been upgraded apart from using points myself. 30's, check, flying solo, check, wearing business attire, check, upgrade... (Sound of crickets)... Nothing.

+1

I can recall so many domestic fights MEL-SYD SYD-MEL J class was half empty and nothing (being in my 30's, flying solo, WP1) could move me from 24F :)

+2

Never had a free upgrade in my 30s!

On board upgrades make up such a small percentage of overall upgrades but I can understand how a middle aged flight attendant would fancy a younger person in their 30's and perhaps offer them an upgrade to try and chat them up.

I have had a few on board upgrades in my 40's for different reasons. Hoping to have a few more in my 50's and so on.

And I think there a couple of frequent flyers in the 30's that have never had an upgrade.

All my upgrades where done at the check in counter, and I haven't received an OP-UP since turning 30.

Perhaps this article (as tripe as it is) is simply trying to extrapolate data where there is none, for example we know op-up's typically go to solo flyers, and perhaps the most common type of solo flyer is a single man in their 30's, and since they probably on a business trip a suit is likely. Since it is probably fair to say, most solo flyers would be there at a businesses bidding, most (not all) leisure travel would probably have at least a +1 with them.

Therefore Single Man in 30's well dressed = highest likelihood of getting upgrade...
To that I say "Correlation does not equal causation!!!"

Does single man = unaccompanied? or
Single man = not wearing a wedding band?

Either way. Tripe.

Well most of the men in my family (myself included) whilst all being happily married, most do not wear a wedding ring.
