Do OWS's get the same seat selecting ability as QF SG members on qantas.com ?

Suspect the answer is No but I'm not so sure ?

Tossing up whether to go for QF SG or AA Plat and wondering what else I would miss out on ? Coz AA miles sure are worth more.

Cheers

Do you fly in the US a lot?

Choosing which way to credit usually takes into account more factors than seat selection :p

Planning a US trip for next year in March and haven't gone without lounge access for a while lol as I was SG for the past couple of years but recently soft landed to silver. Coming home from LA i cannot find seats in F/J as per usual as I only started looking 10 months out instead of 11 (my bad lol) and the best I could find was PE. So obviously that's not enough not to get lounge access. The cheapest way I realise obviously is to buy the 30 day admirals (I would use this JFK and MIA too).

I will be flying to CGK (via SYD) in paid J in Dec and that would either nett me 320 SCs or >10,000 EQPs which is instant AA Plat or OWS through a status challenge. 320 SCs is still a long long way to SG but with a couple of domestic J trips I may be able to reach it. So the latter is obviously better BUT I'm thinking if I do fly PE on the 388 I want to be able to choose that front row with the added leg room so would I be able to do that with AA Plat or would I need QF SG ?

I'm not sure about AA Plat/OWS, but I certainly was able to pre-select the front row PE 388 seats on QF as an AA EXP/OWE on a trip I made a couple of months ago.

In my experience, comparing what QF Manage my Booking allows me to select as AA Platinum with what ExpertFlyer shows me when configured with my QFF Gold membership details, the seats offered are the same. When I set seat alerts in ExpertFlyer and the alert email arrives, I can select the alerted seat via QF web seat selection using my AA Plat status. This applies to bulk-head rows, exit rows etc. But most of my experience is in the economy cabin, though it applies to both domestic and international flights.

Can QF Golds actually select front row of PE or is this a WP only feature ?
And how did you find QF PE ?

Suspect it depends on loads. My one PE flight as WP wasn't able to select.

And certainly not able to select the first 2 rows on domestic flights, this is P1/CL only.

I honestly have no idea -- I fled QFF for AA a few years ago, and it's been a long time since I last flew as a OWS! As a OWE, I haven't noticed any differences in seat selection to what a QF WP has access to -- but I could be mistaken. :)

And how did you find QF PE ?
I flew QF PE on a daytime flight to HKG. I had no intention of sleeping during the flight, and I found the seat (and near unlimited legroom of the front row) comfortable. Food and service was basically business class standard. That said, I personally don't think it's a big enough upgrade over Economy to justify the premium QF typically charges -- I was only in PE because I was paying a near economy class price for it! But maybe I've been spoilt by all the J/F flying I've done ("go flat or go home"). YMMV. :)
