I have been deciding whether to continue my SC run with VB and try and make it to Gold or switch to Qantas.

In the end I decided to wait it out another 6 months with DJ to see if there is any improvement to the offering come the new brand.

I have always been pretty lucky, and have seen probably 5 or 6 upgrades in the last couple of years. However It seems it is still hit and miss on the service improvements. One that stands out is still the lack of preferred seating for Gold and Silver members.

On a recent flight either Syd-BNE or Mel-Syd, or was it BNE-SYD? regardless, they were closing down the 8pm flight and bumping people onto the 7pm, every seat in the plane was full except for the first 3. I was upped to row 3 but only because every other seat was full.

In my mind and I'm sure other FF'ers would agree that when an upgrade is required to fit people on, it should be given to Gold then Silver status flyers. I know there were golds seated down the back because the walked straight past me and people that had clearly never flown before up the front (You know, the ones that can never find the toilet). Really all it would take is a service call at that departure desk and a reprint of a few boarding passes.

Quite often I have been on the plan where no one was seated in PE, despite every other row being full, surely they could seat gold and silver in the first few rows and offer op-ups to golds to PE and block the middle seat for other Golds?

Thoughts?

I think it is a bit early to make an assessment, as there have only been a few minor tweaks so far. They have a few blocks still to put into place.

Hmm do you think QF is going to go out of their way to upgrade Plats after the fact if a 1.5hour flight gets cancelled? I agree status should be upgraded first but on such short sectors I don't know if many will be really that bothered?

I completely agree - a blocked seat is better than nothing, but also upgrades fro just the seating is good enough IMHO. I find it very frustrating to look at those 18 seats empty, when Kahoolawe to shoulder with some huge dude for no reason... Let me make this clear, even though i wouldn't argue with it being offered, I don't want the food, tv, etc. I want the extra space - thats all...

Yeah,

A mate of mine was telling me when he flew Ansett (Worked for Telstra) C.I.P was printed on his boarding pass. He would always book economy tickets and was always upped to Business....

It would be nice to the top tiered ranks flyers to be recognised for their patronage ( for the record I am only Silver)

I pumped a mate of mine who is a DJ Pilot and all he said was "it will be good, and good...."

I find that I am pre assigned seat 4c on most of my bookings and have occasionally been moved to the Premium Economy seats due to loadings and sometimes am offered the overwing exit rows for no charge. Service is normally very good and always get the 'welcome back Mr Meggsy' greeting on boarding, etc. Funnily enough coming home on Friday night in my paid Premium Economy ticket the service was very ordinary:(, in fact worse than I have ever encountered on a VB flight. I am currently preparing an email to send to VB to highlight my displeasure.

On the flight down tonight BNE-SYD during boarding one of the ground crew came on with a new boarding pass for a gentleman seated in seat 1D and moved him to row 21ish. explaining that these were PE seats....

Not sure why they would bother? there were empty seat in PE and they guy had already boarded stowed his luggage and taken his seat....

Just you wait .....;)

I'm waiting in anticipation for the new fleet of Q400's(or similar) DJ are to buy...yeah right, sell the E's and buy 400's. Sounds like a well thought out business plan QANTAS took previously (with the exception of E and I think it was the 717s wasn't it?)

DJ engineering staff are shaking their heads at this one... ( well at least my mate is...)

DJ, don't do it, stay as a Jet airline..!

That's interesting from the engineers. I interpreted the media release as SkyWest operating the turpo props with DJ livery.

Follow up to my earlier post

Less than 24 hours after submitting an online complaint I have received an apology, full credit for my fare and an endeavour to do better next time. Can't fault that for customer service and I am very happy with the outcome. Full marks to DJ Guest Relations department for a swift resolution.:D

In my opinion, they are and will be an LCC until they can offer a proper bus class and a decent FF program.

Velocity, being based on the Air NZ program, is just a huge waste of time, and has no realistic Int'l offerings.

Just compare with star alliance (I currently have over 600,000 miles available in Mileage Plus, so I have some idea).

It won't really improve. Trust me.
