Unexpectedly in the situation of attaining Platinum if I earn another 28 SCs until end of this month.

I was thinking of a discounted Y SYD - BNE fare and a full Y BNE - SYD return fare.

Can anyone think of a cheaper option out of SYD?

Something like a JQ MAX fare to name your nearby city (OOL, BNE, MEL) one-way and a JQ Plus fare on the return (or vice versa) will also do the trick as a JQ MAX fare works out to Flexible Economy earn (20 SCs) whereas the JQ Plus works out to discount economy (10 SCs).

@exLXCXFF You could even consider JQ Max one way and QF red e deal back. Can turn out to be cheaper than JQ plus. If you do this, make sure to do it as 2 separate one ways. Otherwise you have to go through QF and that makes JQ Max prices hilariously expensive.

I am a status run newbie and would love some help from the experts. I am in sight of QF Platinum from domestic economy flights this year. Requal date is 31st December 2023 and I need 155 SC's.

I currently have 1045, have 175 SC's of flights booked, and get another loyalty bonus (50 SC's) after 155 SC's additional.

I have Points Club so assume I can burn some points on JASA's but would prefer cash if its achievable. I am based in Brisbane but could probably leave or arrive MEL/SYD pretty easily.

Any thoughts on the best way to go? Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you achieved Qantas Green tier this year? If not, that's an easy 50 status credits right there.

In terms of the best way to earn those 105-155 status credits this year, one option I would suggest would be something like JQ on a MAX fare. Typically you can fly SYD > DRW or SYD > PER for ~$600 which will net you 80 status credits return. Another possibility would be a long haul domestic business flight booked as a classic award. The obvious one would be something like SYD > PER in business which would net you 38 SCs each way. If you manage to make it a connecting flight (i.e. SYD > MEL > PER) that number goes up to 56 status credits each way.

Just want to check your math first, 1045+ 175 = 1220 currently being short 180. Of which 50 is already going to be achieved from loyalty so only another 130 until Plat.

Unless you mean you have 1045 and need 155 to requalify? (1200 to requalify but 1400 to qualify the first time). Also Green tier is indeed a potential 50SC.

Under 100 SC and a couple of flex ticket / JQ Max gets you there or a weekend off to NZ. Need to work out how many SC you need first though.

What is your budget? I’d suggest BNE-AKL in J or a JQ Max bundle indirect (BNE-SYD-MEL) Some good fares as well out of OOL.
All depends on how many trips you are willing to do as it adds up the cost (hotel, etc)

Looking at next year (already re-qualified plat for 23-24), ideally keen to obtain on actually useful flying for me vs status runs for the sake of them (sacrilege I know). Thinking splitting Euro trips into QF metal Points club to and from Asia and then business revenue on partners Asia to Europe.

For example you can normally find Ay or Qatar BKK -> LHR for around $3.5k return in J (360SC), plus J CR HBA-MEL-BKK return (188pts which could be DSC if I can find them).

Would net two Aus to Europe J trips and plat re-qual for roughly $7-8K and roughly 280k qantas points.

Is BKK the best city for this, or does anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, this is a sound strategy. Transit city really depends on sales, but SIN/BKK/CGK/DEL/ICN are worth looking at.

MNL can have good fares but it's a terrible transit airport.

KUL can have good fares but QF don't fly there direct.
