We stopped in Sydney for 2 nights so our driver simply pulled up for the pre-arranged kerbside assistance. It was very good and we both enjoyed the spa treatment before the flight.

Hi all,
I am going to book a trip to visit a friend in Bali from 26 Oct to 6 Nov and was wondering, what are my best status run options to get a nice cheap boost? I noticed KUL-DPS in Business mentioned above and can find flights in Business for $409 over this period, but are there are any other routes that are particularly valuable ex: SE Asia?

Based in MEL. Another question if I make a reward booking do I get SC for that or is it only for points+pay?
I never understood completely the difference.

Thanks mviy for the advice given If you know of flights $2 t0 $3 per SC would be wonderful I had a look around but most are around the $9 to $10 per SC I don't mind domestically or international. I never seem to find the cheap flights. Regards markir

Flying domestically you're not going to get $2 to $3 per SC. Even if there was a Double Status Credits promo on you'd be looking at about $4-$5 a SC for a good run probably. Leaving the run this late you could find it difficult to secure award flights to position yourself somewhere overseas for a cheaper run.

My favourite runs MEL-SYD-OOL in J (this would give 160SC for a return trip) and MEL-BNE-CNS in J (which would give 240SC) provide good value but on standard credits it's still not cheap.

Flying to New Zealand could be a bit better value but as you're getting closer to your deadline good sale fares could become harder to come by.

Maybe some others would have good ideas for you.

I would suggest keeping a look out for Double Status Credits promotions or an email offering a targeted 50% bonus. There was a Double Status Credits promotion earlier this year. A promotion may not be available every year but when it does come up and if you anticipate falling short that can be a good time to book flights to get you over the line or even shooting for a higher level. Without DSC promotions I still wouldn't have experienced WP status.

Qantas Business Rewards has a 50% Status Credits offer at the moment, if you happen to be a member. Book by 14-Aug, travel by 30-Sep. If you don't have an ABN, message me, and we can work out what Business you may have for my company.

I think it was around $6,700 for that business class run from Perth to New York and return with stops.I picked off A330 Suites and used Alicia Clark to book this. Then the upgrade fairy worked hard and I used 56,500 QF points for the upgrade to First. I had a back massage in the First lounge in Sydney. We were picked up at the kerb in Sydney and were fast tracked which was lovely by a Qantas concierge. Mrscove had the same treatment and was very impressed.

$6700 to enjoy a business class trip to US and return together with WP status for 2 years if you work out the day right is pretty good value if you can take advantage of WP Status for a short to enjoy first class lounge around the world .

I'm not a member of that program but I think it's a double status offer at the moment which means you only need 95 SCs which shouldn't be a problem. Cost wise I think NZ would be your best option, possibly something like SYD-xBNE-NZ in J or possibly full Y. Even something like SYD-xMEL-xHBA in flex Y and return in discount Y would (at a guess) get you over the line.

You've also got 3.5 months yet so if the prices aren't right I wouldn't rush it.

The current offer is +50%, not DSC. It also needs to be booked by this coming Monday and flown by 30 Sep, so they only have 3 more days to decide and 1.5 months to fly, rather than 3.5.

That'd be 60 SC.

To confirm, that's 185 SC without including the QBR promo right? So you'd need 125 SC if flying QF with the promo?

Y+ direct to HKG and Flex Y back via BNE gets you to 140SC and can be done for sub 2k, which isn't bad if you were already looking to go to HKG.

Otherwise, if time is not a factor, you could do two SYD-xMEL-LST flex/discount Y returns for $1252. Would get you 140SC but consume two full days.

I'm not aware of any particularly lucrative ex-SYD Qantas fares for domestic or TT at the moment, which makes finding good value 125 SC itineraries difficult. :( It's also difficult to justify flying to Asia for the super low MH earn rates if all you need is 185 SC in total, when including the fare to/from Aus the earn rates aren't as attractive.

What are some of the good value status runs on MH to earn QF status credits that members are aware of? I have to be in Jakarta in October for work and I'm looking at some good quality status runs while I'm up in Asia.

Also, flying MH, are there any restrictions on what flights qualify to credit back to QF? And are there any discounts on the SC earn rate if the flight is booked on the MH website? I've never flown MH so I'm not fully aware of what limitations or restrictions are in place.

I take it you mean status credits.

Fly MH J within Asia and the haul can be good. Down to about $3/SC. Look out for the sales and book on the MH website.

Try routes like HKG-BKK or BKK-MNL (which are via KUL) for starters. Not sure about CGK.

I'm doing CGK-xKUL-HKG in December on MH. Cost about $650 for 240SC.

Fare was only available on the MH site, wasn't even on EF, but it booked into Z class which is fine for intraasia earn. It randomly popped up about 2-3 weeks after checking almost daily.

CMB, PEK, BKI and NRT can also be great value when on sale but that's the tricky part...

An update I'm living in LST but for flexibility, I book my flights from MEL international or domestic and then a flight from LST. At this point in time, I'm in CNS, then BNE-MEL-LST, After all this, I still need 135SC before 30 Sep 2017 I did look at MEL-AKL-SYD-(BNE)-MEL + MEL-(LST) ret. in flex $1387 95SC or 90 SC +MEL-LST 20/40 SC. MEL-SYD-OOL ret. Disc. $590/35SC Flex $995/70 J a whopping $2155/140 Who says flying is cheap. I even looking further afield MEL-PER-SIN ret. Would anyone agree that flying say MEL-Europe is cheaper in relation to $$ versus SC. Thus more SC for less $ than in Australia? I love to hear from you guys. I wished I lived on the mainland some times.
