Thats a plan for next year Steady.
Right now, its NZ that I aiming for.
I could do Adelaide Cup long weekend for next year (Mar 17).
ADL - PER (comfort seat 15x2=30) then PER - ADL (J 60).
Dec 16, the plan is ADL - BNE - AKL with EK with a QF flight number in J OR ADL - MEL - AKL in J, will try the EK lounge (BNE or MEL).
Will fly less from Aug 16 onwards, but in higher class.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

On your anniversary, Loga2015, your 185 SC left, is not "left". With Qantas, it resets to zero.
Lets say, so if on your anniversary day (before midnight), you have 485 SC, you will be PS at 300, and that precious 185 SC disappears from your Qantas FF account!
It will count to lifetime Silver, but it goes on the dot at the last date of your anniversary month.
I had 855 SC by the end of 31 Jul 15, I had made SG (600 SC) in Dec 14 though, so keep SG till Jul 16.
But my excess over the 600 of 855 SC (ie, 255 SC) does not count to WP/P1, it disappeared.
Edit: if you have enough points by 20Apr16 to attain PS, don't do any more flights till after that date, ie, you can fly 21Apr16, and start the meter from the 21.

Thank you very much! Makes sense. Ill hit silver on 25th of March, and I reckon will be hard to get that additional 185 SC by 30th April.

Not so much hard, more so expensive.
MEL - AKL return in F will give 240, but at least Aud$2600.
Plus overnight hotel.
Pick the EK metal QF flight number trip.

I'm not sure if I read your edit correctly but anniversary dates are the last day of the month, so any SCs earned from 21 - 30/1 would be lost for the next year (though of course count for life time status). The first part makes sense although many people do need to fly between when they attain a tier and their anniversary but the i.e. doesn't as you are not starting the meter again.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Any suggestions on a Status Run in early June to get 540 SCs? Would be looking to fly from SFO.

If you can start from SJC, then..

SJC-DFW-MIA-UVF (St Lucia) return for US$767 will net you 550SC http://goo.gl/flights/zdBu - immediate turn at UVF with overnights in MIA and ORD. I'm sure you could play with it more to get LAX-JFK flatbeds, or to stay in UVF for a night or two.

As mentioned, PTY is also another (well-discussed) option. SJU and POS are others that may be in the mix depending on origin and dates.

Yes, I could do SJC. That option looks better but isn't UVF outside of the USA? Does doing a Status Run leaving the USA and returning to it again create issues?

No. The immigration agents are only concerned about you having a valid visa / authorization to enter the country. As long as you have this you will be fine at the US border.

Most Caribbean and Central American countries are used to folks from the US doing status/mileage runs, so you won't have a problem on that side either. Just make sure you take a print out of your itin as they will want to see proof of a return ticket.

LAX-JFK in J is 100SC and LAX-DFW-JFK is 210SC and generally considerably cheaper. LAX-LAS-DFW-JFK is 240SC :)

If you want an interesting weekend, do the run to SXM (Sint Maarten) and sit on the beach at the end of the airstrip. I flew in and out and that was an experience and looking forward to a chance to do the beach thing another time.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Hey all

Looking at doing a status run SYD-BNE-CNS-BNE-SYD (100SC Y booking), and wanting to return in a day.

The BNE-CNS-BNE legs are timed as follows:

QF782 Arrives CNS 1210
QF649 Departs CNS 1255

Will this be enough time to disembark and re-board?
I will be checked in already online and will have no luggage.

Thoughts?

QF782 is the inbound flight for QF649... so QF649 won't be going anywhere until everyone gets off QF782, then they clean, re-stock and board QF649. So you'll be absolutely fine.

This is absolutely on my radar however SXM fares IME are never discounted like the PTY/AUA/SJU/etc fares often are.

Just enough time to grab a Snack with a cold QLD beer sitting in the outdoor tropic climate before re-boarding :)

This is mainly because it is in such demand. I watched prices for a while because I didn't know whether I could fit a side trip in and there was many sales when you could get it for $600 US which is better than most times with PTY. Difference is that all the seats fill up and you could be looking at $1500 US from LAX in whY. There is 2 flights a day from MIA and all flights 2 days either side of my trip were oversold. This is a $780 US one that took me 30 seconds to find from SFO http://goo.gl/flights/9Xa3 440SC's

Here is a quick one SFO-ORD-DFW-MIA-SXM|SXM-MIA-ORD-LAX-SFO for $1495US 570SC as an idea for making a run out of it http://goo.gl/flights/oI4X

This will not be as flexible as PTY though, because this is a holiday destination. It is more of a case of making use of the spare time that you would have been sitting in the lounge to do SC runs with the same end result of when you arrive.

For those that don't know, if you save an itinerary in google flights, and keep checking on it, you get graphs of what the prices were and where it is now. I think it only updates the history when you check on it though, could be wrong.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

posted on the srilanka thread (but no response :-()

wondering anyone 'transiting' at Male airport before ??
found Srilanka business class ticket from KUL - MLE (return) doable in 1.5day..but worried the transit time at Male airport..need expertise advise on the below itinerary :

KUL - CMB 15:05 - 16:10 (28th Mar)
CMB - MLE 18:35 - 19:30 (28th Mar)

MLE - CMB 22:20 - 00:15 (28/9th Mar)
CMB - KUL 01:00 - 07:20 (29th Mar)

Just wondering whether it will be possible to bypass the custom/immigration and go to transit counter directly (assuming i can get the return boarding pass while checking in at KUL)

And this itinerary earning 240SC costing RM1650....
