How are people getting so many SCs for AA flights? I plugged in a SJC-***-***-SJU flight and this nets 55 SCs on the Qantas points calculator. Is the calculator wrong or am I missing something?

So, using an example of SJC-DFW:

Edit: Or, to increase the SC earn (and for a cheaper fare), SJC-LAX-DFW would produce 30+90 SC, rather than the example of SJC-DFW, above.

Thanks to those who replied to my question about a SC run - ended up booking a same-day MEL-AKL-MEL in EK F (mostly using points in a points+pay). Not the most cost-effective run, but time-efficient, and I'll get plenty of actual enjoyment out of the flights in F (as opposed to a MEL-xSYD-DRW-xSYD-MEL return in QF 738 J).

That was the run I had booked for next week. Boom. Cancelled. :(

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Considering doing a status run earning about 600 SC leaving from SFO or SJC in June. Would prefer to sleep in a hotel at night and don't want to cut it too tight to get between planes. Any suggestions?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Its easy to do 360SC a day without pushing hard. LAX-DFW-ORD and back is easy. Try and get the 788 on the DFW-ORD legs. You can push hard through one day with a transcontinental flight overnight (eg LAX-MIA or LAX-JFK) and finish early afternoon and not pay for a hotel. For 40 odd hours, you sleep and eat on a plane. Just make sure its HLO.

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

For anyone travelling ex-EU and looking to build SC's whilst they are at it, the regular BA J return fare (I class) ex-Norway to AU (currently about $4200 AUD all in) allows for some rather crazy BA/MH/CX/QF routings earning up to 880 SC's for less than $5 AUD/SC. The main restriction is BGO/OSL-LON-Asia vv. must be on BA.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Can someone advise the best timing to purchase AA first domestic fares. I am looking at HNL to Chicago return.

Re: Best Status Run Options - A quick overview! [not the discussion thread]

Informal discussions in a number of places have indicated two months in advance is likely to (but not guaranteed to) provide the optimal results. This does NOT apply to the known holiday periods (eg Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Years)

Happy wandering

Is there any useful runs people know about ex-SLC at the moment? I know there use to be back in the day, but not sure anymore. Got a two week block in mid-June I will be there so times are fairly flexible.

Also is AA known to have anything out of MCO these days?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

So I wanted to take advantage of the good AUD/NZD exchange rate at the moment (1.12NZD/AUD) and book a CHC-SYD-MEL J flight (CHC-SYD on QF8765 (EK codeshare)), but QF website only gives choice of flight on QF metal, no codeshare on EK. In the end I booked on Expedia, it's just a shame I won't get my bonus credit card points for booking via QF.
Would QF have waived the phone booking fee if I can't see the flights I want online? No big deal this time, but good to know for next time.

Edit: I just looked at my credit card transactions and it shows as: QANTAS FREIGHT MASCOT:mrgreen: I knew airlines considers PAX like self loading freight, but no need to be so rude:D

you may or may not get a bonus for that one - as not ALL QF billing services are eligible, but that's an aside.

Did you try using the multi-city tool to book via qf.com or qf NZ site?

Yes, I tried the multicity tool, but it would only show CHC-SYD and CHC-BNE on QF metal. For the CHC-SYD segment, it would even say "no alternative flights available". Took 1 minute on Expedia.com.au...

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

MEL - AKL - MEL in J for $1134 (160 SCs) as a day trip ($7.25/SC).

That's not the worst (and would give me the 145 SCs needed).

Am I likely to find anything closer to $1000 for similar SCs?

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

So, today's MEL-AKL-MEL SC run on EK406/EK407 has not gotten off to the best start - EK406 (DXB-MEL segment) diverted to ADL due to weather, and now scheduled to leave MEL five hours late!

I'm assuming it's highly likely they'll turn the same plane around as EK407, so the delay shouldn't cause me to completely miss the return flight. However, I'll have much less time in AKL than expected - how long does it take to turn around an A380, perhaps 1 - 1.5 hours?

Hence, I'm wondering if anyone who has done the same run knows whether I have to clear customs in AKL, or whether I can just head to the airside transit area? I'm assuming I can (just transit), but would like to double-check in advance to save time in AKL. I already have my BP for the return, in case that makes any difference.

Thanks!

re: Discussion/Q&A on Best QF Status Run Options

Wafliron you are back! Turning an A380 around tends to take 90 to 120 minutes.

Edited: didn't see Durafax want J TT then J Au dom, thought s/he was seeking F TT to add to an Au J domestic.
